Bampidave Posted November 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2010 Have anyone snorked with Turtles in Barbados? What do you think of the trip. Did you go with P and O or did you arrange the trip yourself.:)
katy161 Posted November 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 16, 2010 Hi, we did a trip with Cool runnings catamaran, out of barbados, snorkling with the turtles etc. Really recommend it. Well run and good value for money. We did out selves and booked on line. Katy

Lots of rum and singing on the way back!!!:p
jeanlyon Posted November 16, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 16, 2010 We did Round the Island and swim with the turtles with Glory Tours. It was excellent and only 8 people in our bus, so much, much nicer than a ship tour.
Sail the seas Posted November 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 16, 2010 We have just returned from the Azura tranatlantic and did this trip on the first of our two days in Barbados. Excellent and saw lots of turtles very close up. Diving over a reef and wreck also included and lots of fish. Plenty of food and drink included. Only downside was that ***** the way back the music was very very loud and almost every one went onto the deck of the catamaran to escape the worst of it. sammydo Posted November 17, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2010 we did this on our own.... we had a taxi to holetown beach, recommended by taxi driver. whilst there, guy asked us if we wanted to swim with turtles, we said maybe later. He had couple of boats, with glass bottom, and upper sun deck. we watched several people come and go, so in the end decided to have a go. we had the boat to ourselves (3 girls) and 2 crew, 1 who was in the water with us at all times, and we had the most fantastic time. we were kitted out with the lifejackets, and spent just under 2 hours in and out of the boat, at a couple of different locations. We only paid 20 dollars each,... bargain, and treated so respectfully, and it was our own personal tour. Will definatley do that again, when we go next year. portiaqueen Posted November 17, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 17, 2010 A group of us did this through Silver Moon Barbados. It was fabulous and because they only take small groups it was much more rewarding than the P&O trip. Quite a luxurious catamaran compared to some we've been on, with lovely food & drinks included, plus they colected us from teh cruise terminal & took us back there afterwards. Can't recommend them enough. We booked by email and paid on the day. $50/60 rings a bell
LS78 Posted November 17, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 17, 2010 Hiya, We have booked to go with Calabaza in Feb. They have amazing reviews on here and trip advisor and I think booking off ship will mean a far more personal experience and less crowds :-)
Flyer1948 Posted November 22, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Your posts re doing it alone are really interesting. :) We have been sewn the seed by P&O which has worked; that the ship won't wait if we are late and not on a ships tour. :( So, very worried about that. Is it a problem do you think  John and Carol
jeanlyon Posted November 22, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Glory tours were well aware that we had to be back by a certain time. It's not a big island, we were back 2 hours before the coaches :-
jeanlyon Posted November 22, 2010 #12 Share Posted November 22, 2010 http://www.glorytours.org/fulldaytourspage.html Have a look. They do half day tours as well.
jeanlyon Posted November 22, 2010 #13 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Don't forget Barbados is not a big island, so you could get a taxi from anywhere and be back if something happened.
Flyer1948 Posted November 22, 2010 #14 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Thanks for that, I think we will give it a go as the ships tour sounds a bit naff compared with Glory Tours websight. Many thanks John and Carol
johnny tallentire Posted November 23, 2010 #15 Share Posted November 23, 2010 We did it diy 2 weeks ago in barbados,we bought the snorkel and mask for under £10 on the ship and asked a taxi driver just off the ship for the nearest turtle beach which was 15 mins drive $20 return so the whole family swam with the turtles for less than the ship was charging for one person:Dif you ask the taxi driver they will take you and pick you up at the arranged time,we cant remember the beach name but tell the taxi driver its the one that roman abromavich(dont think i spelt that right)lol has built the mansion next to,its a lovely beach with bars resteraunt and shower facilities so well worth the visit. jeanlyon Posted November 23, 2010 #16 Share Posted November 23, 2010 I'm sure it's easy to do it without booking a tour. Go for it.
qm2lover Posted November 24, 2010 #17 Share Posted November 24, 2010 Hi, Thanks for the information. Please could you tell me how far out you have to swim to see the turtles? Can you touch the bottom? Are turtles just there, or do you have to wait for a tour boat to come and feed them? Any thing else you can think of tell me? We would love to do this DIY, just abit concerned as we are not strong swimmers. Many thanks
johnny tallentire Posted November 24, 2010 #18 Share Posted November 24, 2010 On the beach i told you about the turtles were around 20 metres out although you can not touch the bottom there are 2 glass bottom boats that will take you out and you can either swim from the boat or look through the glass bottom, they offered us a price of $30 for 4 of us but we did it diy, make shure you barter with the skippers of the boats its surprising how quickly the price drops if you dont show any interest the price started at $70 for us. johnny tallentire Posted November 24, 2010 #19 Share Posted November 24, 2010 Hi forgot to add ,the turtles were there all the time we were on the beach which was around 5 hours, they were great fun take a hold of them and its a free ride around the bay,if you go out on the glass bottom boat they will supply you with the buoyancy jackets so no worries about not being a good swimmer.
