PoseidonGodoftheSea Posted November 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 26, 2010 I just booked a sailing on the Amsterdam and realized that I will be right above the Ocean Bar dance floor. If I recall from past cruises there didn't seem to be much going on in there past midnight, but not really sure. I googled this but many ships/lines have an Ocean bar it seems so I need some HAL specific info. Thanks, PGOTS
RuthC Posted November 26, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 26, 2010 Unfortunately for those of us who like to stay out and play, the Ocean Bar closes down early. I haven't heard the band in there play past midnight in ages. I believe the bar stays open later, but there's just a few people hanging around after the band shuts down. kent4489 Posted November 26, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 26, 2010 Last week on the Ryndam the Ocean Bar band played from 6:30pm - 11:30pm. Same on the Eurodam in Feb.

the2ofus Posted November 26, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 26, 2010 Too early IMHO! My biggest conplaint is that all the musicians in all the venues take their hourly breaks at the same time. All the music all over the ship stops, then starts again after break. This might be designed to get you into the casino or the other bars. What it tends to do is send folks back to their cabins for TV and bedtime.

Indeed - The smart thing would be to stagger the bandbreaks so that folks would be inclined to wander from room to room and spend money in the casino or shops along the way. Vic The Parrot Posted November 26, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 26, 2010 Except for their 7.15-7.45 break during cocktail hour... Which is still too short ... :D
lettienets Posted November 26, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 26, 2010 Except for their 7.15-7.45 break during cocktail hour... whose stupid idea is that for a breaktime? That is just when you want a drink before late dinner. Happened on my Alaska cruise too in June on Zuiderdam.

It gets earlier and earlier. Pretty soon they'll be closing down for the "night" at 6:00 PM. What's a night owl to do?
cruz chic Posted November 27, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 27, 2010 The break - or Cocktail Hour?;) I'd say the break. For some reason I always like to go to that bar but I rarely enjoy the music. It sounds the same on every ship:p.
walkingmom Posted November 27, 2010 #12 Share Posted November 27, 2010 Two years ago, we were on the Amsterdam above the Ocean Bar. The neighboring stateroom occupants complained to us about the noise from the Ocean Bar, but DH and I actually enjoyed the soothing sounds of music drifting up and lulling us to sleep each night we were in bed before the 11:30 band cut-off. It was never an issue and we would only hear the music after we shut everything off in our stateroom to go to bed.
