Swann5 Posted November 28, 2010 #26 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Will be on the Miracle first of Jan.-so glad to hear the piano bar is non-smoking! Thanks for the info.pat If your sailing date is Dec. 29th then we have a roll call started! Check it out at http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1054556 :) We can't wait to check out the new smoke free piano bar; have tried on previous cruises and have always been forced out by the wall of smoke! Way to go Carnival!! Irishlinny Posted November 28, 2010 #27 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Well all we can hope for is that when CCL comes out with the new cruise director schedule for 2011 is that Malcolm is repositioned off The Miracle. Possibly he would be a good choice for The Splendor. Agreed! Ditto! I wouldn't mind a new CD, regardless. Malcolm is nice enough but doesn't have much of a personality. And just because you say Wooo HOOO, doesn't mean you can get people going.;)
J.A.H. Posted November 28, 2010 #28 Share Posted November 28, 2010 It sounded like they have made some other lounges that used to allow smoking to be smoke free as well. He was talking about how they were wanting to move some ventilation units from one area where they are no longer used to another area but they would need to rewire in the ceiling. Sorry I don't have more details. All I would say is pay attention to the fun times because it lists exactly where smoking is allowed. I just didn't look closely enough to realize the piano bar was not listed! Malcom also suggested that eventually Carnival and all cruise lines would be smoke free, at least indoors. He said it is just a matter of time but that Carnival doesn't want to be the first one to do it. Said NCL, RCCL all waiting for the other to do it first and take the hit. But suggested that once that happens the others will follow. This is just awesome news! It's about time! Now I can look forward to enjoying some music in the evenings on my vacation. (Imagine that!:p).

Possibly he would be a good choice for The Splendor. My personal opinion is that Malcolm would be a good choice for retirement! Just my opinion, but he runs the WORST entertainment staff of any C.D. I've ever experienced! "SKY"
idiebabe Posted November 28, 2010 #30 Share Posted November 28, 2010 This is just awesome news! It's about time! Now I can look forward to enjoying some music in the evenings on my vacation. (Imagine that!:p). There are several non-smoking venues on each Ship...if you haven't enjoyed music in the evenings before than why would you now! The non-smoking lounges are empty! Why have you not been there enjoying making them not empty!!!
comeon530 Posted November 28, 2010 #31 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Yes, he was pretty clear on it being completely smoke free. It seemed to be popular. There was always a crowd in there. The piano player was very good. I don't care who made the decision, it was nice to enjoy some piano music and no smoke. We were very satisfied with Malcolm as a cruise director and had no complaints about any of the entertainment.

Do you think that The Piano Bar was popular because it was smoke free or could it be that the piano player was very good(as you stated) and that's why they had a good crowd.
Kerryman50 Posted November 28, 2010 #33 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Just got off the Miracle today. Wanted to post about a couple things. 1 - According to CD Malcom Burn the Miracle is going to be getting some sort of big screen where the ping pong table is now when it goes into dry dock in 2012. ! We love cruisin on The Miracle and have 2 cruises booked on The Miracle in 2011 so I'm happy that there will be no on deck big screen until 2012. I'll believe it when I see it, there have numerous posts about this in the past. IMO they should leave the spirit class ships design as is. They should put big flat screen tv's in the cabins.:)
uffdafla Posted November 28, 2010 #34 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Yes I am sure the entire piano bar was smoke free! ;) It sounded like Malcom made the decision and while he mentioned it was better for the piano player who does not smoke, it did not seem like it was done only at the request of the piano player. There will those little signs about not smoking all over the place. I thought they were just there for the meet and greet since they had placed a special function sign out front. But then the topic came up and Malcom explained he decided to do it. Guess it could switch back if another CD comes onboard? I liked Malcom. In oct, the areas to watch the playoffs, world series, and Florida vs Alabama game was limited. (for non smoking people) Entertainment, well, many for all, just search out your preference. Irishlinny Posted November 28, 2010 #35 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Do you think that The Piano Bar was popular because it was smoke free or could it be that the piano player was very good(as you stated) and that's why they had a good crowd. The good PB player is more likely the case;) We had Damien Brell on the Destiny and it was packed...and full of smoke. I think what annoys me is that is the only entertainment lounge that where smoking is allowed (sports doesn't constitute entertainment for me)...now smokers get nothing. We love cruisin on The Miracle and have 2 cruises booked on The Miracle in 2011 so I'm happy that there will be no on deck big screen until 2012. Nevermind the fact that since there is no stadium seating (also a plus IMO), I don't think it will have the same feel for late nite movies, etc.
buddylover Posted November 29, 2010 #36 Share Posted November 29, 2010 What wonderful news.....we will be able to enjoy going to the piano bar once again if it is indeed SMOKE FREE....we are going on the Miracle in 70 days!!!
jsfromsc Posted November 29, 2010 #37 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Now we will be able to go into the piano bar. Thank you so much for this information. Now if we could just get the casino no smoking life would be good!!!!!!! At the back by the adult pool area ... is there somewhere to sit in a lounge seat and be in the shade. We have a few in our group (me being one of them) that can not stay in the sun for long periods of time. My first sunburn in the Caribbean was my last!! Lesson learned the hard way. It was 10 years ago and I still remember how much it hurt! Thanks Don't count on the aft pool being adults only. I was on the Miracle in March and there were no signs stating it was adults only and there were kids in all the pools. There were shady spots, though, and you'll just have to watch the first day where the sun hits at various times of the day and try to find a seat in the shady areas. This is, indeed, great news about the smoke-free piano bar and the addition of the big screen.

I liked Malcolm and we'll be on the Splendor in Feb! :p I like Malcolm too!!!! :D Would be nice if he can get help and other CDS, they have so much behind the scences work to do!!!! :( That way he could with other CDS be out with the people more! Kerryman50 Posted November 29, 2010 #44 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I hung out at the Aft pool all week last week on the Miracle and did not see ANY kids in the kid pool!!!!!On The Miracle this last October and we DID NOT see any kids in the aft adults only pool. The kids we did see back there were with their parents sitting at tables eating ice cream and well behaved. I can't say the same for some of the adults.:pBut everyone was having a good time.:)

LindaJSteele Posted November 29, 2010 #46 Share Posted November 29, 2010 So, just for clarification...there is an adults only pool in the back. Does this mean there is NOT a Serenity area on this ship? I just love those!
UpstateCruizer Posted November 29, 2010 #47 Share Posted November 29, 2010 That would be ok. I liked Malcolm and we'll be on the Splendor in Feb! :p LOL I would be thrilled if Malcom went to the Splendor as well since we are scheduled to cruise on it in May :) I absolutely loved Malcom as a CD both times we sailed with him. We spoke to him on both cruises and found him to be so personable as well as approachable. I know it's not a popular choice for many when they cut back on smoking areas but it will be nice to be able to enjoy the piano bar. Maybe a compromise would be to alternate nights where smoking is allowed that way everyone can have the chance to enjoy the piano bar :)
quickrate Posted November 29, 2010 #48 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I like Malcolm and I like the no-smoking in the piano bar. We'll be on the Miracle Jan. 6. Looking forward to enjoying the piano bar!:D Pat
mojo2rusty Posted November 29, 2010 #49 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Great news about the PB. Last yr we tried to go in but the smoke was so thick we couldn't stay. I can't imagine it could be good for the PB players, having to deal with all the smoke, It can't be good on their lungs. I do understand why smokers may be up set with fewer places to smoke, but you have no idea how hard is it for the non smokers to have to have to deal with the smoke. We not only have to breath it, but it gets in your cloths, on your skin. Thanks for the PB news. How was the guy in the PB? Haven't read any reviews on him yet. we sail next Sunday. Maybe a compromise would be to alternate nights where smoking is allowed that way everyone can have the chance to enjoy the piano bar :) We NEED you in the United States Congress.:)There is so much controversy on smoking areas and non-smoking areas and I thought CCL had a very good policy regarding this but to all of sudden to make The Piano Bar completely non smoking it just doesn't seem right. The OP came across as this was Malcolm's decision, but it most likely came from the BEARD'S upon his recommendation. The Piano Bar is a great place to hang out LATE and in my opinion it should continue to be the way it was. NO SMOKING at the bar area around the piano player and give the smokers an area in the back of bar to smoke and put in a better ventilation system.
