gargoyle999 Posted November 28, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Just got off the Miracle today. Wanted to post about a couple things. 1 - According to CD Malcom Burn the Miracle is going to be getting some sort of big screen where the ping pong table is now when it goes into dry dock in 2012. 2- The piano bar is smoke free! I did not even realize this until the 2nd to last sea day when there was a CC meet and greet and Malcom and the asst CD were there taking questions/comments and we happened to meet in the piano bar. We have given up on the piano bars due to the smoke so did not even go there to check it out! Thought it was only the Splendor where the piano bar was smoke free. Wish I would have realized it sooner!
fig414 Posted November 28, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Well I guess it will be really raucous in there now.

Crystalbast Posted November 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Will you be writing a review of your cruise? How was LaRomana and what did you finally decide to do there? How was the weather all week long? Enquiring minds want to know. LOL!
friedshrimp Posted November 28, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Does this mean they are working to make all of the piano bars smoke free???
Julienatul Posted November 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2010 thats great news, I have avoided the piano bar due to smoke too!! I will try iy next month when we sail.
mulvihill Posted November 28, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Now we will be able to go into the piano bar. Thank you so much for this information. Now if we could just get the casino no smoking life would be good!!!!!!! At the back by the adult pool area ... is there somewhere to sit in a lounge seat and be in the shade. We have a few in our group (me being one of them) that can not stay in the sun for long periods of time. My first sunburn in the Caribbean was my last!! Lesson learned the hard way. It was 10 years ago and I still remember how much it hurt! Thanks

sharecruises Posted November 28, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 28, 2010 That is great news about the piano bar !! we had a really fun "dueling piano" place that closed where I live, and another "piano bar" place that closed..so I always want to go to the piano bar on the ships but so far I don't last long, I think the smoke is the worst in there, so small and so many people just smoking away! I really hope this spreads to the rest of the fleet! Yipppeee
Irishlinny Posted November 28, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Interesting...I was just on the Legend and the BAR at the piano bar was smoke-free, but you could go back to one of the tables and smoke there. An interesting compromise which I thought was a good one, and the piano bar was not smoky at all. Are you sure the whole bar was smoke free? Mulvihill, there are no lounges in the shade in the aft adult pool area...however the tables and chairs are in the shade.

okwriter Posted November 28, 2010 #15 Share Posted November 28, 2010 I don't know if the Piano Bar on the Sensation was smoke-free or not last January, but I didn't see a single person in there the entire four days/nights of our cruise. Not even a piano player.
Rare shof515 Posted November 28, 2010 #16 Share Posted November 28, 2010 i wonder how the new big screen will fit since alot of posts say it cant be done on those kind of ships due to different configurations

Wish I would have realized it sooner! When we were on the Miracle in October I had thought the piano bar was smoke free too. However it was only a small area near where the piano player sits. The rest of the piano bar allowed smoking. While I would enjoy the piano bars more if they were totally smoke free I'll be waiting to see which ships this happens on. sharecruises Posted November 28, 2010 #18 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Since Florida is smoke-free that is probably why they closed! Oh please....Broward county has the most restaurants per capita of anywhere in the world....we also eat out more (per capita/statistically) than anywhere in the world... we have more bars and restaurants and more entertainment around than needed..it is very competative....DJ's are more cost effective than piano bars I guess... While we do have some huge smoking venues at the (Indian) casinos (Hard Rock) we have other casino places that are non smoking...the Isles..and it is also packed I think it was more a problem of money for the rather small area of the one bar and also finding good piano bar players. They used to have a guy who could do all sorts of requests and he was very popular. The last year or so they seemed to struggle with finding good player who "fit' and now they do a one man singing or else a dj nice try but NO cigar >grin
sharecruises Posted November 28, 2010 #19 Share Posted November 28, 2010 to clarify as misinformation spreads easily on here >>> for some time they have allowed the piano player to make the "call" to not have smoking right at the piano itself...that is their right cause it is their lungs..nothing new there....it has been this way for awhile..however, since they do get tips I imagine some of them just put up with the smoking at the piano and some of them may also be smokers themselves >>> Splendor (per John Heald) had a "trial" of making the piano bar (and on Splendor also the disco) totally NON smoking....and per John H it was a success and they made this "permanent" .. >>> OP clearly stated that the CD Malcom told them that the Piano bar was NON smoking....not that the piano player requested no smoking just at the piano itself....he said it was NON smoking maybe a trial? maybe a new policy?? and maybe....l hope...one that will spread. I will report on the Imagination after my Dec 10 cruise
gargoyle999 Posted November 28, 2010 Author #20 Share Posted November 28, 2010 Yes I am sure the entire piano bar was smoke free! ;) It sounded like Malcom made the decision and while he mentioned it was better for the piano player who does not smoke, it did not seem like it was done only at the request of the piano player. There will those little signs about not smoking all over the place. I thought they were just there for the meet and greet since they had placed a special function sign out front. But then the topic came up and Malcom explained he decided to do it. Guess it could switch back if another CD comes onboard?
gargoyle999 Posted November 28, 2010 Author #21 Share Posted November 28, 2010 It sounded like they have made some other lounges that used to allow smoking to be smoke free as well. He was talking about how they were wanting to move some ventilation units from one area where they are no longer used to another area but they would need to rewire in the ceiling. Sorry I don't have more details. All I would say is pay attention to the fun times because it lists exactly where smoking is allowed. I just didn't look closely enough to realize the piano bar was not listed! Malcom also suggested that eventually Carnival and all cruise lines would be smoke free, at least indoors. He said it is just a matter of time but that Carnival doesn't want to be the first one to do it. Said NCL, RCCL all waiting for the other to do it first and take the hit. But suggested that once that happens the others will follow.
Irishlinny Posted November 28, 2010 #22 Share Posted November 28, 2010 :mad::mad: I didn't know the CD was God on a ship. More reason to hang out at aft Lido I guess:rolleyes:

More reason to hang out at aft Lido I guess:rolleyes: Well all we can hope for is that when CCL comes out with the new cruise director schedule for 2011 is that Malcolm is repositioned off The Miracle. Possibly he would be a good choice for The Splendor.

sharecruises Posted November 28, 2010 #25 Share Posted November 28, 2010 I don't think it is the CD who makes these decisions...the "beards" in Miami (as John Heald calls them) are the ones who decide and they are "experimenting" with various options the "no smoking in the cigar bar" didn't make much sense even to non smokers but no smoking in the Piano Bar does make sense..small room, horrible ventilation, piano players singing bothered by smoke
