Just off the Miracle- couple of tidbits for you.

So, just for clarification...there is an adults only pool in the back. Does this mean there is NOT a Serenity area on this ship? I just love those!

Doesn't "adults only" imply "serenity"??? We were on Legend last year & Imagination year before -- both had adults only (I think Imagination called it "Serenity Deck" but there were at times very well behaved kids in the area -- reading books - so no one asked to have them leave. They didn't bother anyone.

I too am happy for a non-smoking piano bar on Miracle -- we will be on her in 7 days!!!! I have not been able to step into one yet because of the smoke. hard to believe ventilation systems can't be improved to accommodate everyone.

Some of the ships I have been on have an the aft pool and jacuzzi's for adults only but kids can be back there, they just can not go in the water, they have the grill, pizzeria back there and ice cream machines (and you know kids will be back for that haha)

It is non smoking which was well enforced on Liberty but not so well enforced on Destiny

Imagination (and a few of the new ships and remodeled ships) have the Serenity deck...Glory has it (remodeled)

the Serenity Deck is supposed to be 21 and over period...no polite kids reading or anything, just adults. There is nothing back there for kids...

2 hot tubs adult only and padded loungers. No food or anything so no reason for them to be there

It is also supposed to be non smoking

Never saw him back there either.:)We always try to book our cabin aft, deck 7, easy access either by elevator or stairs to the Lido deck. It's our favorite place to relax also.

Yup, we do the same! Had 7258 a few weeks ago...right around the corner from the aft elevator...and it's one of the few that has that giant balcony! Loved it!

LOL I would be thrilled if Malcom went to the Splendor as well since we are scheduled to cruise on it in May :) I absolutely loved Malcom as a CD both times we sailed with him. We spoke to him on both cruises and found him to be so personable as well as approachable.

I know it's not a popular choice for many when they cut back on smoking areas but it will be nice to be able to enjoy the piano bar. Maybe a compromise would be to alternate nights where smoking is allowed that way everyone can have the chance to enjoy the piano bar :)

Great thought! Compromise is wonderful!:)

We NEED you in the United States Congress.:)There is so much controversy on smoking areas and non-smoking areas and I thought CCL had a very good policy regarding this but to all of sudden to make The Piano Bar completely non smoking it just doesn't seem right. The OP came across as this was Malcolm's decision, but it most likely came from the BEARD'S upon his recommendation. The Piano Bar is a great place to hang out LATE and in my opinion it should continue to be the way it was. NO SMOKING at the bar area around the piano player and give the smokers an area in the back of bar to smoke and put in a better ventilation system.

Exactly! That's how the Legend was a couple of weeks ago...it was not smokey at all. And because people were not smoking at the bar, nobody was really smoking. I only had one cigarette and I went to a table way in the back corner.

No, there is no actual Serenity Deck on Spirit Class ships...yet, anyway. But the aft adult pool area is really not bad. I don't travel during the kids' vacation times, but there are always kids on the cruise...generally there aren't many back there...they kind of filter thru from time to time.

My DH and I will be on this ship in Jan(14th), and am glad to hear that the pb is non smoking, I for one used to smoke about 16 years ago, I quit because of my health, now I cant stand to be in the same room with smoke, am very allergic to it. I used to be the cheerleader for smokers rights, now everything has changed.

I didnt realize that there was no big screen tv on the Miracle. I think this will be a good thing, do they have a band or some kind of music out there? This will be our first time on her, cant wait.

Valor was the same way a couple of months ago. There was no smoking at the bar itself and the room wasn't smokey at all. Someone lit up now and then but not a smoke filled venue by any means.

Yes, compromise is a wonderful thing! IMO...alternate nights this way it is fair for everyone!

There is an adults only area that is mid ship but there are only chairs there and it can be windy. And when we have been there and people bring their kids there is no staff to police it. I put on a comment card one time they should have a phone out there in case there were kids there we could call to have some staff deal with it. There is no bar service there, just chairs. The aft pool and jacuzzi are adults only but the chairs around them are not.

Here are the smoking areas as listed in the Fun Times: Disco Deck 2, Maguire's Sports Bar, Mr Lucky's Casino, open deck 3 starboard side, Lido deck starboard side, Orpheus Bar. Cigar/pipe only allowed at Maguire's, lido deck starboard and Orpheus Bar.

I think the alternating nights of smoke/no smoke at the piano bar is a good idea! :)

Don't count on the aft pool being adults only. I was on the Miracle in March and there were no signs stating it was adults only and there were kids in all the pools. There were shady spots, though, and you'll just have to watch the first day where the sun hits at various times of the day and try to find a seat in the shady areas.

This is, indeed, great news about the smoke-free piano bar and the addition of the big screen.

On Miracle Nov.11 till 18th and aft pool was kidless the whole time....

Any chance you can share the Fun Times with us? I'm curious because I emailed Carnival and they informed me that Sam's Piano Bar is smoking. Is Miami not aware of this change? Here was Carnival's reply as of this afternoon.

"In regards to your inquiry, the following areas have been designated Smoking Areas on the Carnival Miracle: Sam's Piano Bar Deck 3, Disco Deck 2, Maguire's Sports Bar - Deck 2 forward, Mr Lucky's Casino - Deck 2, open deck 3 starboard side, Lido Deck on Starboard side only, Orpheus Bar - Deck 9aft. Cigar and Pipe smoking is allowed ONLY at Maguire's Sports Bar, Lido deck Starboard side and the Orpheus bar. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused you. Have a wonderful cruise!"

Would love to see the Fun Times from your cruise....thanks. Yes, alternating nights is a fair solution for all.

Miami (and the PVP's) never seem to have up to date information or answers

other who were on this cruise have said the same thing...it is now NON smoking

the piano bar and disco on Splendor became non smoking as a 'trial' and it went well and they made it "permanent" according to John Heald

amazing how the smokers want to "share" and compromise now when they see that what I have been saying is coming true, bit by bit...my predictions from last year have been validated ..and I am hoping we will see more changes for the New Year

Want to compromise?? How about some nights in the casino that are totally non smoking? and/or Disco nights?? if you are in a room with non smokers you don't smell anything, it does not affect you...but the smell of the smoke affects many of us

again...e-cigs might be a real compromise...I think they should let people puff away on them anywhere...they don't smell, they don't make my eyes water

have you read some of John Heald's comments?? He (cigar smoker) has again said that he doesn't think people should smoke inside the cabins...I wonder if that is a hint of what is to come??

I don't see why a piano bar should be smoking at all. Look at poor Dana Reeves (Christopher Reeve's wife)..she died so young of lung cancer, a non smoker...but she said she had sang for years in smoky piano bars

The Cigar Bar is a good place for the smokers...it has more ventilation, it is larger and IF I go in there I expect to have to smell them (and yeah I did like Music Network a lot so we went in the Onyx Cigar Bar one night and I didn't have a problem)

and again...e-cigs e-cigs e-cigs

Sandy,

my mom, sister and I will also be sailing our first miracle cruise jan 14th too!!! I totally agree about the smoking as my sister has the same issues that you do....although as for the big screen, there was one when we were on the destiny last year. It was fun to watch people during the lido parties at night on the screen. didn't go to watch any movies though as there was not much that we wanted to see. but during the day they showed various concerts/music like the beach boys...I hope there is some kind of music on the miracle to replace that...

I will get them scanned Wed or Thur and post a link here! I am not exaggerating when I say that based on what Malcolm said it seemed it was his decision, not something dictated as a trial by some beard in Miami. Which would mean it could change if another CD takes over.

I will be making a comment when I get my email survey that I think it should remain smoke free. So I hope I don't wreck it for anyone if HQ doesn't know about it yet! :p

Thanks...I would enjoy seeing the Fun Times since I'm booked on the Miracle in a few months. Also, if it's contradictory to the info I was just sent I'd like to send that to the GS Rep who responded to my email. Miami should be aware of any policy changes on any of the Ships in order to give correct infomation whatever the topic might be.

How did you enjoy the Ship overall and did you enjoy the Entertainment? How did you like the Ports, etc.

Gargoyle,

I loved the comment that the rumor is all ships will be smoke free inside in the near future! Last year on the Freedom when smoking was allowed at the tables in the piano bar, Greg had to keep a bottle of honey on the piano that he was always drinking from. He also drank hot tea alot and of course lots of Jeager. Greg is one of the best piano bar entertainers Carnvial has and we really enjoyed being able to go in there every night.

My partner and I booked the Miracle New Year's cruise after one hell of a bad year to celebrate it's end...He's a smoker and we've cruised Carnival before and were aware of the already limited smoking venues...He was fine with them though and planned accordingly...Now I've read the new changes to him, and he wants me to call Carnival and just cancel because he says he feels mislead. If I'd known he was going to react like that I'd have kept it to myself.

Over 2K down the drain unless he surprises me with a change of heart...I want to cry. :( Now I get to spend the afternoon looking for "Cancel any reason" trip insurance that we might still qualify for and try to salvage something out of it.

We were also on the Miracle for Thanksgiving. I love the fact they are slowly doing away with the smoking areas on the ship. If they could just do something about the smoke removal in the Casino I would be extremely happy. Malcolm did say they were hoping to put in heavy duty smoke removers, but just waiting for the electric. A great cruise this time, cannot wait to cruise again.

Do you think that The Piano Bar was popular because it was smoke free or could it be that the piano player was very good(as you stated) and that's why they had a good crowd.

Yes, he was good. The best I've heard on a cruise ship. We would not have known this personally if the room had been for smokers. Many others in there would not have stayed if the room was smoky. The piano guy, Greg, (per Malcolm) is much happier now that it is smoke free and is physically able to sing longer. The smoke affected him and he couldn't perform as long prior to the smoke-free decision.

I did see some young people questioned about their age when they entered the aft pool. A security person came right up to them.

I realize the smoking issue is huge and not everyone will be satisfied no matter what the ships decide. I just don't think that smokers 'get' the affect the smoke has on the rest of us. I have no problem with a certain side of the ship outdoors being designated for smoking, but give a big cheer to banning smoke indoors.

I was there and had the same impression as you. Malcolm indicated that it was his decision.

Jules, the only new changes are that the piano bar is smoke free on the Miracle. The other smoking venues have not changed. They likely won't change in the near future as none of the cruise lines wants to be the first to implement them fleet-wide. Your partner can still smoke in all of the other previous smoking venues. Just not the piano bar. Surely he wouldn't cancel the cruise because of that??

Seriously?!?! He will cancel the whole cruise because the Piano Bar is non-smoking?? Now I am very stubborn and most definitely addicted to smoking, but that sounds crazy to me! At the moment, Carnival has the most lenient smoking policies. Did he plan on going to the PB? If so, he can hop down a flight and have a smoke in the casino, or walk a short way to the lobby and then outside to have a cigarette. That's what I will do if the PB player is any good. I think we should all be used to getting banned from places by now...I don't like it, but it is what it is. I would NEVER give up a cruise because of it, unless I wasn't allowed to smoke in some places.

I hope for your sake that he has a change of heart...sounds like you really need this cruise, and the Miracle is a wonderful ship:)

The piano bar on Carnival is really really close to the sports bar which is smoking. There is a flight a stairs right outside the piano bar that you go down and the sports bar is right there. My wife smokes and when she needed a cigarette, she would head down there and then come back up.

The piano player on the Miracle currently is Greg Gallello and he is very very good. I was on the Thanksgiving Miracle cruise and found myself there most nights of the cruise. I rarely go to the piano bar on most cruises because I do not normally find them very entertaining but Greg did a great job of playing a variety of classics as well as modern music and he did them all very well. He also did a great job of getting audience participation.
