Nurse4heartkids Posted November 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Hi all, I booked with a union rate and I am wondering if NCL asks to see your card at the pier? Thanks!
Ms belp Posted November 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I would hope so. They check out our military discount to make sure it's valid.
Gohogs34 Posted November 29, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2010 My TA said to bring it but I was not asked to show it. I did however have it with me just in case.

Ms belp Posted November 29, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Advertising. The cruises sound so great. We loved Alaska. From years on the CC board it seems some have gone several times. Do you do something different every time or are you comfortable doing the same excursions every time?
Richie2pies Posted November 29, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I always have it with me, but haven't been asked yet in 3 cruises.
lunaxmars Posted November 29, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 29, 2010 When my dad did his, they had him fax a copy of it over to them when it was booked. No one asked for it when boarding, but bring it just in case.
StingrayJG Posted November 29, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Our travel agent just booked us on the cruise we got back from Nov 7-14th with the Union discount and I had my card with me but I was never asked for it at any point in the process. barbgazz Posted November 29, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 29, 2010 I had to fax it over, but never had to produce it at the pier and didn't even take it with me.
lambs2 Posted November 29, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 29, 2010 We had to fax my husband's the first time, but since then our TA has never asked for us to do that again. DH always brings it with him, just in case, but never been asked to show it.
abs711 Posted November 29, 2010 #12 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Does anyone one know what is considered an ok document if they do ask. My husband does not have a card as his union (although a union) is more of a drinking club then an actual union.

abs711 Posted November 29, 2010 #14 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Where can I sign up for this union....LOL :D:D:D Haha!!! Totally not worth it! He has to pay to pay and drink. It is rediculous. They do not do anything a union should.

I didn't have a card and sent them a copy of my paystub showing the union dues (blacked out all personal info that was not relevant). His union sounds more fun than mine tho =). Neiner Posted November 29, 2010 #16 Share Posted November 29, 2010 When I booked my cruise direct with NCL the agent asked for my Union number. ?? He said it should be on my union card. I said I don't have a union card. He said I need to bring something to the port from my union showing that I'm a member or I may be charged the full price. He suggested a pay stub. My problem is that in the deduction column on my check stub my dues are listed as "UN L". Doesn't seem descriptive enough to me. Not sure what to bring. Sauer-kraut Posted November 30, 2010 #17 Share Posted November 30, 2010 You sound like me, we don't have any 'cards' and my paystub also says UN L so that will have to do if they question it. You can always show them a copy of your local or national newsletter....
silkhair1 Posted November 30, 2010 #18 Share Posted November 30, 2010 We had to fax a paper over the first time we booked union discount, but have never been asked for anything when we check in. He has his card with just in case, because we got 10% off and that is pretty big. Have a great time!
ForSharonB Posted November 30, 2010 #19 Share Posted November 30, 2010 Hi - Just back from sailing with NCL. They didn't ask me for union ID, which we don't have, but I did have my my MEDICAL INSURANCE ID with me which has the union logo on it to show them if they had asked. Have fun! runnerandme Posted November 30, 2010 #20 Share Posted November 30, 2010 My daughter had to fax hers over. My friend was asked for her Union ID at check in..she had a pay stub and she brought a union newsletter addressed to her just in case they could not figure out the pay stub. bob brown Posted November 30, 2010 #21 Share Posted November 30, 2010 I had a similar situation when booking under the 'Interline' rate (for airline employees). The first time I had to fax over proof of employment, (a letter from the airline indicating my employment service dates.) I also received a disclaimer that failure to do so, would result in having to pay the full fare at check-in. Since that time, they have the letter on file, so it is no longer necessary. Although I do carry my airline ID with me anyway.
coldferret Posted November 30, 2010 #22 Share Posted November 30, 2010 We were told to bring proof to the dock (1/1/11). Since retired, we got a letter from union on letterhead and they even notarized it for us. I would think that should be enough if they ask for it
raventhebouv Posted December 1, 2010 #23 Share Posted December 1, 2010 We had to fax over proof of membership when we booked our cruise but were never asked at the port for any proof. Of course we had the proof with us any way just in case they asked for it again. If you are members of AARP sometimes the AARP rate (using PGAARP1 code) is a better discount than the union discount. I check them all before booking and before final payment!

My local hasn't been very helpful in the past when requesting a letter proving my union membership. Even when I was a steward. :(
Budget Queen Posted December 2, 2010 #25 Share Posted December 2, 2010 Advertising. The cruises sound so great. We loved Alaska. From years on the CC board it seems some have gone several times. Do you do something different every time or are you comfortable doing the same excursions every time? I am a multi time repeater. I do, do a lot of the same touring since it is my preferece. But have done a LOT of tours.
