Time of spring break

can anyone tell me when Spring Break is in the US does it move around like Easter Sunday or is it usually at the same period every year

Colleges usually have their spring break in early to mid March. Other schools have their Spring break the later part of March and the first couple of weeks of April. Different parts of the country have their spring break at different times. Figure on that 6 wk period, and you'll be fine.

Easter, the time when many have spring break, is very late this year, so many school districts could eschew that week and have their breaks earlier. You can probably count on spring breakers, which includes elementary, middle, high school and colleges, will go anywhere from the first week of March to the end of April.

if you google search Spring Break dates you can locate a website that lists the schools & their dates & numbers on break for various weeks-very helpful!!!

It varies by state and by school. I can tell you about California:

 

The UC system: week of March 21

The Cal State system: week of March 28

You might also want to avoid these long weekends when many schools (not colleges so much) have time off:

Martin Luther King Day (Mon. Jan. 17)

Presidents Day (Mon. Feb. 21).

 

I have read reports that ships were crowded with families at these times.

My college just changed their spring break to coincide with Family Day (Canada) which is your President's day on Feb 21st.

We swore we'd never cruise again at Easter (way too many kids) and.....yes, we booked a cruise for April 2011 not realizing it was Easter! We're also staying at a condo in Daytona Beach for the month before the cruise......spring break! Double whammy.
