The 12/26 cruise on the jewel is supposedly is sold out, for those of you who have sailed on a sold out ship before, How crowded was it?? was it a complete zoo with lines everywhere you go??

Any holiday week sailing from NY will be loaded with large family groups and lots of children.

 

Don't be surprised if there are substantial waits to get into the MDRs at peak dining hours, and big crowds in the buffet at breakfast and lunch.

The vast majority of all sailings sell out. They keep lowering prices until they do.

I wouldn't worry about the crowds as most sailings are full. I'd worry about the number of kids on a holiday sailing.

The number of children that will be on a holiday week sailing makes a huge difference, and there's a big difference between "full" (ship at 100-105% of double occupancy capacity, which is true for almost any sailing) and FULL, which means the ship is cruiing at or near the maximum capacity permitted by law. The holiday sailings are FULL, and you will notice the difference.

I was surprised when I checked our 1/2 Pearl cruise last night and see that all of the cabin types with the exception of 4 upper levels suites say "sold out"... there were tons of cabins the last time I checked a few weeks ago . Must have had some really good sale while I was on vacation last week!

We have been on 3 Xmas/New Year, one Easter holiday and one end of UK/North America school summer holiday cruises.

 

All were full ships and all had lots of kids.

 

The more kids there are on the ships, the less crowded the casinos and adult shows/clubs are.

And we have a teen son who really enjoyed the teen cluds on every sailing we were on.

I love sailing for New Years.....and yes there are many children.....I just enjoy the decorations and all the fun and the children never seem to bother me. Now some adults thats another story.......LOL I cant wait........to go

Yes its that time of the year when families take advantage and think the cruise lines are a baby sitting service, and the kids run wild for the week.

 

We never travel at holiday or school break time.

We were on the Gem last New Year's Eve and it was sold out plus, plus. In fact, there were 300+ teens in the 15/16 age group and about 600 total children/teens. I must say, the NCL Teen/Kids Clubs keep the children busy and entertained in their own lounges. The Teens had a Lounge called the Leopard Lounge. My son, 16, had a great time and we hardly saw him during sea days as he was always with the teen group. All-in-all, although filled to capacity, there were no real problems with the children or too many people in one area. The only time it was crowded was poolside New Year's Eve at midnite. Don't worry about the capacity issue as this is a large ship and there are lots of places to relax. Enjoy your cruise, New Year's Eve is a great time to be on a cruise ship! :)
