upgrade dilemma - what to choose?

Well, I have a slightly different outtake on this. I don't really understand why so many always say "stay where you are". What is the difference between paying considerably more up front to get in a more convenient cabin location, and taking advantage of price drops later on to get a cabin in a better location? I personally see this as an upgrade. So must others, or we would all be fighting over the lowest deck from the get go and no one would want the upper decks. IMHO

I'm know others do not take this stance - which is what is so great about online forums! We can all share our own opinions and experiences.

For me, the decision would be about how much money do I really want to spend. Am I content with keeping it with what I have alread spent and was ok with, would I like a little more conveniece (if the new deck is more convenient) or a room with a view. This is something only you can decide.

I had a friend ready to book a certain week on a cruise, who was afraid of being seasick and had to have the exact middle inside cabin. Someone booked it in the meantime... she changed dates and booked a different date to get the exact middle of the lowest deck, inside cabin.

so i am currently booked interior on deck 2 of the carnival destiny. should i upgrate to interior on deck 9 for $30 or go to an oceanview on deck 2 for $50??? such a tough decision!!!

I would go ocean view on 2 over any interior (at least, true interior) in a heartbeat. Even better would be if that OV was 2340, 2341, 2346, or 2347. :)

Another vote for OV in a heartbeat. I want to see the water, the weather, the natural light. But then I couldn't ever do inside- i really would get claustrophobic- I didn't even like getting my boys organized. As far as what deck- it means much less to me. I rather like lower decks- less bashing around if it gets rought.

I just went to my TA this afternoon and upgraded from an obstructed view balcony on deck 5 to an extended balcony on deck 7. I kept checking the prices and found a past guest price that was only $60.00 ($30.00 pp) above what I had originally paid. Carnival tried to give me a cabin on deck 8 but I prefered deck 7 with only cabins above and below us. It was worth it to me. For my 8 day cruise that comes to $3.75 pp/per day. Heck, I can spend that much in the casino in less than 60 seconds. :D I would go with the OV as others have said.

I guess it's all in your perspective.

Personally I would upgrade to the higher interior. I don't like to be on the lower decks at all. I love the interior because my husband doesn't wake at 5 a.m.! Ha ha! Of course I prefer balcony but don't spend the money for an OV. Good luck!

thanks so much everyone! this will be my 7th cruise so i have done it all - lower interior, middle oceanview, upper balcony... i am still not 100% on my decision but i went with the oceanview on deck 2. my last cruise we were in a balcony on the lido deck and loved it because of location so that is why i was leaning toward upper interior (and it is nice to have the pitch black feel no matter when you want to sleep :) ) but i went with the majority for ocean view! i was in such shock - this is the first time we have ever even been asked to upgrade! $50 for the room was a great deal! thanks again and happy cruising!

You got a great deal on the room :) Both sound like a win win for you since you would be happy with either :) Enjoy your cruise.

First off why do you feel you need to upgrade? inside on deck 2 is not that bad, done it 4 times front/back and middle and have always enjoyed my room. However if you can afford it I would def go oceanview, having a window does make a big difference and if its just $50 that nots bad, however that is also the cost of a shore excursion, a few cocktails, a night in the casino etc so it all depends on how you like to spend your money
