viaggi_per_mare Posted December 9, 2010 #26 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Stu Dunn is by far our favorite. We will have him again this weekend on the Spirit. We like Stu Dunn very much when we cruised with him on the Triumph (2006). Haven't run into him again though.
viaggi_per_mare Posted December 9, 2010 #27 Share Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) I know alot of people don't care who the CD is. But has anyone had Todd Wittmer before? Just wondering. He is supposed to be the CD for Liberty in March, 2011. Thanks in advance. We had Todd on the Dream in May, and after 7 days, we would not have known him if we fell over him. For us, he was MIA. To be fair, other posters have raved about him being very visible in the clubs/piano bar/lounges very late at night. We are early risers and are in bed before 11pm and do go to the casino but, not much for the lounges/piano bar. (too much smoke as a rule) It seems from the postings that he is not an early riser, so the fact that he was MIA for us, might have been our sleep cycle and his. I would agree with your comments about Todd. He was fine with what he did, just never saw him any other time. Karl with K is the exact opposite , he was everywhere, all the time. golfadj Posted December 9, 2010 #29 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Thanks for posting! Now I know which ship to skip to avoid Malcolm Burn. I'll NEVER cruise with him, and his group of nasty folks again! "SKY" We will sail with him next month and hope we have a better cruise than you did. golfadj Posted December 9, 2010 #30 Share Posted December 9, 2010 How is Jorge? We have a large group forming in the roll calls and it would be nice to be able to direct some of the member to here. We have sailed with Jorge twice and think he is the funniest CD we have seen. He was a standup comedian in a former life before becoming a CD. Cigar Dude Posted December 9, 2010 #31 Share Posted December 9, 2010 You will enjoy the cruise. But...embarkatiuon is crazy, dont go to early,There is no real waiting area to speak of, you wait outside, and it might be pretty cold.Have a great cruise I heard to get there around 11am. Would that work?
gaylensgigi Posted December 9, 2010 #32 Share Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) I heard to get there around 11am. Would that work? Its a little hard to pin down, we got there around 10,waited in the heat(not many shaded areas)for about 1 1/2 hours. Then,we got in line for buses that drove us an amazing 45 yards to the door. Once we were inside,it was a breeze,on ship in around 10 minutes, but its the outside part that gets you. I dont know how it was after 10, we were among the first on board, all the rest of those 2000 people came after us. The city of Charelston is working on a better set up, hopefully they will have made progress by the time you get there. The ship is in great shape and the staff was wonderful. kenspidey Posted December 9, 2010 #34 Share Posted December 9, 2010 A CD can make a cruise a whole lot more fun especially the sea days. A great cruise director is really a bonus. Thanks for the input on Stuart. I have had Todd, Jorge, and Malcolm and I liked them all. Jorge is one of the funniest you will ever have and besides John Heald I enjoyed him the most. Todd is a great personality but he does need to interact more. I had him on the transatlantic on the Dream so I had plenty of time to see him. A real nice guy but in the middle of the pack on talent IMO. Malcolm was fun also, but you really had to approach him for him to warm up. He is a great guy though. I compare everyone to John Heald which is a little unfair as he is the best as far as I am Concerned.

Nav-Tex Posted December 9, 2010 #36 Share Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) I see that I am going to miss Steve Cassel on Esctasy in May. I once sailed on Fantasy in 2008 and the ACD was a "Danny from Belgium". Does anyone know if Danny Ghilarducci is known as Danny from Belgium? lappy22 Posted December 9, 2010 #37 Share Posted December 9, 2010 We like Stu Dunn very much when we cruised with him on the Triumph (2006). Haven't run into him again though. He told me that he prefers being based on the west coast. A little closer and easier to get home to Australia. He was on the Elation for a couple years before moving to the Spirit last year. stargate fan Posted December 9, 2010 #38 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Anybody know anything about Karl Bird on the Victory? Karl with a K was our CD on Liberty two years ago. He is, by far, the best CD we have ever had. He was visible and approachable. He held a little Q&A session one afternoon and patiently answered everyone's questions. He also had a great sense of humor. We never cared about our CD until we sailed with Karl. He made the cruise that much better. You are lucky to have him on your ship. stargate fan Posted December 9, 2010 #39 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Until reading CC, I never realized there was such an interest in cruise directors. I am sailing 1/8/11 on the Dream and have Butch - lots of people seem to like him, so that should be great. I do have a question though, we were on the Fascination out of Jacksonville in feb 2009-I really liked that CD, but have no idea what his name was. Is there a way of backtracking and finding out who that was? Do you still have any of your Carnival Capers? The CD should be listed there.
JGoof1 Posted December 9, 2010 #40 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Anyone cruised with Felipe Couto he will be the CD on the Splendor when she gets back in the water... we are cruising 3/6 He was our CD on The Pride in Sept when he was filling in for Kirk. I met him, liked him very much. He remembered me as I got off the ship. He does "whoohoo" at the end of every announcement. People laughed the first day or so, but joined in as the week went along. I liked him doing the shows. It was his first week on the Pride and as he got settled in he was graet.

travelinggrandma Posted December 9, 2010 #46 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Stuart Dunn is my favorite next to John Heald. He is energetic, gets everyone involved and his wooden horse racing game was hysterical. He was also calm when we had an emergency on the Elation. I cruised with him three times and would love to go again. I cruised with Todd and thought he was o.k. I was surprised when he was chosen for the maiden voyage of the Dream. In October I was on the Splendor with John and found out what all the hype was about. He was the best in my mind. He was so funny I hurt from laughing and yet he was caring too. I was wondering if it was the same Felipe I had on the Inspiration a couple of years ago -- now I am sure it was because of the "woohoo!" thing LOL It was pretty funny once you got used to it - I thought he was great and did a funny "love game" show. nybumpkin Posted December 10, 2010 #50 Share Posted December 10, 2010 With 13 cruises under our belt, we've had the opportunity to sail with several of the CDs on the list. Todd Wittmer - two cruises, Conquest 2005 and Liberty 2007. Nice personality. The Conquest cruise was impacted by a hurricane - we missed a port and were delayed a day returning from the cruise. Todd was great at developing alternate entertainment. I'm not sure if he's changed since we last sailed with him in 2007, but we saw him out and about often. Malcolm Burn - three cruises, Conquest 2005 (ACD under Todd) and Victory to Canada 2007 and 2008. He's very funny - on one of the Victory cruises I found myself going to his debarkation talk just because of his humor. Josh "Big Sexy" Waitzman - Miracle 2009. Again, very funny guy but I thought he overdid the announcements. My own thought is that the CD should make announcements once in the morning for morning activities, once at lunchtime for afternoon activities, and once toward the evening (hopefully not while you're sitting in the dining room eating) for evening activities. Josh doubled up on the announcements. Jorge Solano - Glory 2010. Another weather-impacted cruise, and Jorge did a good job coming up with some activities on the fly and also had his entertainment team out mixing with passengers. I didn't see him out and about himself as much. But very funny - I enjoyed his welcome aboard show. Chris Jefferson - Valor 2008, Conquest 2010. Another real nice guy - and nice singing voice. He bonded with our youngest son on the Valor cruise. I would never book a cruise to meet or to avoid a cruise director, but a good cruise director can make a difference in a cruise. I think back to that Conquest 2005 cruise - it could have been a very different experience with a cruise director who couldn't improvise a schedule as well as Todd did. I am disappointed that we had to cancel our 2/20 Freedom cruise - I would have liked the chance to sail with John Heald.
