Solstice Slot Machines

I read many threads that said the slots were tight on this ship. Anyone with experience know which machines tended to be looser than others? Plus if you place your seapass card in the machines, do you earn cashback rewards like on other cruise lines?

Although it is a while since I was on Solstice (Jan 2009), from my experience I would agree that slots on Solstice ARE indeed tight.

I LOVE to play video poker and no matter which machine I tried and no matter how long I played, I couldn't win a thing (and I tried them all):D

My partner noticed that it wasn't just me having bad luck-we didn't really see any slots winners during the entire trip.

I know that the casino always wins in the end and I always expect to loose my gambling money (it's entertainment as far as i'm concerned-and I enjoy it) but when the machines are that tight it becomes boring and no fun after a while.

If we ever cruise on Solstice again I think I'll stick to the tables;)

Stay away from all slot machines.:D

The slots seemed really tight to me this cruise- I only had 2 good spins and they weren't that great - one from a penny and one from a 2 cent machine. One person from our cruise critic group did well on the slots though...but was not good at all for me!

You do earn points when you insert your card, but they accrue very slowly - better than nothing though. Slots on all cruise lines are going to be a bit tighter than most land based casinos as there is no competition - you can't walk out and hit the casino next door or down the road while on a cruise ship. I doubt they are any tighter on Solstice than any other Celebrity ship. We did a group slot pull on our recent Equinox cruise and one of the participants hit a $1,000 jackpot which was a lot of fun and we wound up doubling our money as a group. Most of the time though slots are not going to profitable and should be utilized mainly as entertainment.

When you walk into the casino using the entry near Cellar Masters, go to your right and you'll see a bunch of penny machines. Those seem to pay pretty good. On our cruise last month, on two nights I put in a twenty and walked away with over $300. The dollar machines are way tight but the penny machines are pretty decent.

We enjoyed the slot machines last week on the Solstice! They have a great selection of 2c and 5c machines which we prefer. My partner won a few hundred bucks, I didn't win anything significant but had a good time. Like a previous poster said slots should be seen as a form of entertainment, not a way to make easy money!

The reward system that uses the seapass is indeed not very generous but, here's a tip for you: look for special time slots in Celebrity Today during which the slots offer 5x or even 10x the points for the reward program.

We played mostly in the 10x points time slots (5pm to 7pm on sea days as I remember). We didn't spend that much and we got a few free drinks, free gelatos from Al Bacio and a souvenir keychain!

Group slot pull, eh? Sounds fun Gonzo! How did you organize it and what were the rules / particulars?

It was a lot of fun. We had a very active roll call and one of the roll call members created an amazing web site that (among other things) kept track of all the group activities we planned. Every time somebody signed up for an activity, she added their name to the website. We chose a sea day for the slot pull with an early afternoon time so as to decrease the risk of it conflicting with meals, Elite cocktail hour etc. Everybody participating put $15 into the $1 Wheel of Fortune Machine and had five spins at $3 per spin. We left all the winnings in the machine and split the winnings equally. The person who had the best spin won a few bucks extra (we rounded the winnings down to the nearest dollar amount so that we would not have to hand out change and the person with the best spin received the leftover dollars as a bonus). The casino manager on Equinox (Ralph) even got involved when he saw our large group congregating and MC'd the entire event and cheered us on.

Just off Solstice and I thought the slots I played were comparable to land based casinos. Not the worst, not the best. I played a lot more craps ($5 table amazingly. Just watch out for stuck up jerks who love to complain while losing...). But I was hoping for the option of nickel or at least dime poker. I am a low roller, obviously. My dad paid for the cruise. :)

We were on the Solstice on the Halloween sailing. We played quarter machines and walked out the first night $750 richer - after only about 45 minutes. Was up and down the rest of the week, but never spent more than the initial $20 we put in the first night. We had fun!

That gives me some hope, I had my butt kicked this past weekend @ Mohegan Sun

We also actually won on the Solstice slots on the 1/2-1/9/2011. We mainly played max bets on the penny slots by the entrances and the ones facing the card tables. We have never won on a cruise before so this was a nice change. We played with the winnings and ended up taking more home than we got on the ship with!:D Kim
