We have just come of Nautica and at the Oceania Club presentation of pins we were really interested to learn who were the top 6 countries in terms of Oceania Club members.

1. USA

2. Canada

3. Australia

4. United Kingdom

5. New Zealand

6. Mexico

Interesting.

I suspect that the total for USA tops the next five countries' total.

BTW - how did your "visa issues" work out; and how was your cruise?

After all the battles with Oceania before the cruise, we had absolutely no issues with visa's. In the end they got visa's for everyone for all ports of call and it was all very easy.

The trip was great even though there were a lot of people still very upset about missing out on some of the best ports of call (Dar El Salaam, Zanzibar and Mombasa, which were replaced by Pointe De Galets, Port Louis and La Digue).

For us (and many others) the highlight was Myanmar. All the scary things we had heard were not evident, the people were friendly and nice and we had a wonderful time.

The worst place was East London where we took a taxi as the only other alternative was free shuttles to a local mall where those who went said was awful and many didn't even get off the bus. We ended up seeing a huge slum/shanty town area of 1.2 million people. That was a real eye-opener and something we will never forget.

Given that this was the first time Oceania had been in this area we believe there were a couple of ports that could be dropped in preference to staying 2 days in other ports such as Durban/Mauritius/Reunion/ or perhaps Dar El Salaam, Zanzibar and Mombasa - if they do go there next time.

Don't think Maldives is worth two days as the main island has nothing apart from shore to shore buildings (no swimming allowed) and to get out to an island is very difficult - particularly at that time of the year. A one day stop is enough if at all.

As far as Nautica was concerned the staff and crew on this trip were the best we have experienced since we have been cruising with Oceania, which was a pleasant surprise.

Cheers
