Guru Posted January 22, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2011 My family is considering taking a 3 or 4 night cruise to the Bahamas in July or early August 2011, as we haven't been able to have a great vacation in a long time due to a family member running for and winning a seat in the SC State House. But there is 1 member in the family of 4 that is a very mature 13 year old boy with High Functioning Autism that is extraverted (can be intraverted at times), a majority of his friends are female, a picky eater, requires a CPAP machine, and is highly intelligent. Our options would be: Royal Carribbean Monarch of the Seas 3 or 4 nights Majesty of the Seas 3 or 4 nights. Carnival Carnival Imagination 3 Nights Carnival Fascination 4 nights Carnival Sensation 3 or 4 nights
onthelake Posted January 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2011 Take a look at autismontheseas dot com. That may answer a lot of your questions.
Rare Essiesmom Posted January 23, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2011 You might add NCL Norwegian Sky from Miami into the mix. They would not be my cruise line of choice but they do offer some of the best rates for short cruises to the Bahamas. EM
SadieN Posted January 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 23, 2011 Ther is a gal on the Carnival board who has an Autistic son. She raves (as in absolutely loves) about the Carnival clubs and the treatment her son has had over the years. Ask over there. I'm sure she'll find you thread. Also ask on the Disabled Cruise board. Babyberger Posted January 29, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2011 I second the austism on the seas dot com, they were more than helpful to us on our recent Oasis sailing! That said, once RCI knew we were traveling with a special needs child....they were incredible!!!! They were so understanding and accomodating to all of our needs! Even though my son doesnt "look" special needs, no one questioned our requests and everyone was more than happy to help. You just need to be comfortable stating what you need! ENJOY your cruise!
