The aft penthouses on Deck 8 are now BAD...noise from Spinnaker, relocated to Deck 7, makes them 'unihabitable.' The NEW cabins forward on Deck 12 are beautiful...new decor....NICE!!!! Many don't have balconies, but there are floor to ceiling windows. The Sushi Bar is fabulous!! There are lots and lots of deck chairs and places to lie in the sun...and shade. Cagney's is great for lunch and breakfast for suite passengers. Crew is wonderful.

I've done lots of research the last few days and booked today!

Hubby will be happy to hear abt the Sushi Bar as he loved it on the Pearl...and we love Cagneys for breakfast!

While I'll miss the Spinnaker being where it should be (loved time in there while cruising Alaska)..we did get a penthouse balcony on Deck 12! There are only 4!

Thanks for sharing!

I have been trying to find someone who has stayed in cabin 8670 above Spinaker. Have you stayed there or know of someone who has? I can not find any reviews about noise in that cabin only the cabins on the other side of the ship on deck eight. We have friends who are booked in 8670. I have been in Spinaker since they moved it to deck seven aft and I am pretty sure there is a door on that side of Spinaker that leads into another room. So it is possible that 8670 in not directly over the lounge. I really would like to hear from someone who has first hand knowledge if there is noise in that particular room. TIA.

Is there a fee for breakfast/lunch at Cagney's?

The mystery is solved !!!! The Star was built for Star cruises in China, and the number four is considered unlucky by Chinese. They also eliminated all the 40 series cabin numbers. They skip from 38 to 50.

I was told they wanted to eliminate decks numbered four and fourteen, but it was not permitted due to possible confusion in emergencies.

What is available on the NCL Star that they don't advertise, i.e. You need to know to ask and you can get, Secret places on the ship, etc. Thanks Everyone! Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Here is a negative: the casino sucks. Other than that it is a great ship.

We are in 12012, so you are either next to us, or across from us on the other side of the ship. So excited there's another PH person on the meet and greet!

See you at the meet and greet,

You may want to check the dates. DiBob took her cruise about 5 years ago.

Just an update or two. There is no longer a Red Lion Pub on the NCL Star. There is no popcorn at any venue. The Star Bar across from Cagney's is gone. It is now the Sugercane Mojito Bar and Moderno Churascaria. The suite Breakfast and lunch is not at Cagney's anymore. It is now in Moderno...except the first lunch on sailaway day is sometimes still held at Cagney's.

"There is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's the charm of it. Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you've done it there's always something else to do, and you can do it if you like, but you'd much better not."

- Spoken by Ratty to Mole in Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932).

Here's an example of this...didn't make sense to me until now :) Note the two cabin numbers:

The other thing is suite passengers now eat breakfast and lunch in Moderno, not Cagneys.

As for secrets, I'm not sure if this is one or not, but there are less used hot tubs on deck 13 forward and aft at the kids pool (deck 12 iirc).
