Bakincakes Posted February 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2011 We are having a discussion on the RCCL board about some lines who won't allow pax under certain ages to book cruises. Some lines will allow married, underaged pax, sail if they can produce a marriage certificate. I was wondering how gay couples handle that situation, especially if you can't produce that kind of paperwork. Not all States will issue even civil union certificates, let alone marriage certificates. Anyone have that issue and how did your line of choice handle it? Thanks!! ehfl Posted February 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Interesting question. But I think most gays have the sense not to get married so young.

ikelmay Posted February 4, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 4, 2011 I would imagine the number of "underage" (21?) gay couples desperately wanting to cruise on a mainstream line would be pretty small. I would hazard a guess that if they had the desire to take a cruise ship, they would be partying on a chartered vessel that catered more specifically to their tastes.....:)
Musikman Posted February 4, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2011 well I started cruising when I was 21 and now I will be 26 shortly....honestly I do enjoy drinking onboard and wouldn't find it much fun to cruise if I couldn't.
Schplinky Posted February 4, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 4, 2011 I think it would be pretty rare that it would happen. Most under aged couples, gay or straight, would not have the means to cruise.

If you look at the roll calls for the gay forum, the vast majority of us are sailing on mainstream cruises.

For RSVP you have to be 21.
etoile Posted February 4, 2011 #9 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Regardless of whether anyone is out there to do this, I do wonder what the cruise lines would do if the situation were to arise.
Schplinky Posted February 4, 2011 #10 Share Posted February 4, 2011 I suspect they would apply the same rules as they would to a straight couple living together but not married. If the gay couple were married, I would guess the line would accept their documentation, if they could produce it.
