Broke my lens on my point and shoot.

I have a Cannon Power Shot SD870 and loved this camera over the years. I broke my lens. We are leaving for Hawaii in a few weeks and need some advice on what I should buy. I like the point and shoot, some video filming and I'm looking for a zoom lens 5X or higher. Also, a rechargeable battery with a charger.

 

Not sure if I want a Cannon, but have been looking at some other options. My price range is $75 to $200 and really would like some advice on what you bought. Thanks in advance.

I like canon and nikons canon as a little more of an edge with me, the first link is a great deal and 12x zoom wow looks like a great camera with one flaw doesnt have a rechargeable battery, the second has your 5x zoom with a more compact body, all the nikon point and shoots ive had i have loved.

I highly recommend you get another powershot! Its a great line and you are already familar with the menus and stuff. Last thing you want is new camera on vacation and not understanding how to take pictures with it.

Canon has a great recycling program, they give you credit for your old camera towards a new camera, win/ win.

Google it and call them, they are very helpful!

If you should change brands, I'll suggest Panasonic. They use Leica lenses in many of their models. I have enlarged images to 12 x 18 and at arm's length they are as detailed as a old time photograph. The zoom range can be considerable....mine is 12X optical (don't use the digital) and the price is in your range. And do not get sucked in by the mega-pixel race....while mine is 10mp, I often shoot at 6mp. This is more than enough for most printed images and sending pictures on line....massive overkill.

I second the suggestion to try a Panasonic. Several weeks ago I bought the Panasonic FZ35. (There are several newer versions such as the 40 and 100). But the reviews on the 35 were fantastic. I've had the camera for a few weeks and it is fantastic! Terrific photos! It has an 18X zoom and is a 12 MP.

 

It is priced a bit above your budget at $240 but well worth it!

I have had a FZ28 for 18 months and recently bought the FZ40 with 24x zoom for $300. For something smaller and cheaper, try the ZS7. Saw it on sale at Costco last weekend. Panasonic make great cameras with Leica lenses.
