keichman Posted February 20, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2011 Trying to determine what kinds of snack we can carry on/off the ship. DD has special needs, and has trouble with crunchy foods and as a result, doesn't really prefer snacks at all. But she does love pudding, which is an easy way to carry her over between meals. Any idea if the shelf-stable puddings (like Snack Pack) that are sealed qualify as a packaged food that is allowable, or would it be considered dairy? So long as it's in it's original sealed package...unopened until consumed..it should be fine. As a "just in case", if you get a note from her doctor identifying it as "medical necessity" you should have NO problems taking it on/off the ship. cb at sea Posted February 20, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2011 Sure...you can bring anything sealed onboard...no problem. You do NOT need a Drs. note!!!
beachchick Posted February 20, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2011 Actually, it depends on your itinerary. There are a few, not many but a few, countries with restrictions on dairy of any kind, regardless of whether it's in a shelf-stable sealed container. Generally, you should be fine with them, but do make sure that your specific ports will allow it. A doctor's note will not help if the port/country is one of the few that have restrictions against what you want to bring off the ship. They do not make exceptions to the agriculture/food import laws. beachchick
keichman Posted February 20, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted February 20, 2011 Thanks for the responses! I'll check with our port...easy for us, just one: Bermuda. I'm glad that the pudding is at least a possibility of an option. She also drinks almost exclusively milk, which is sometimes a real pain! For that one, I figure that we'll just need to figure out a purchase on the island, when we're out and about. She'll definitely need hydration in Bermuda in August! Kerry's Girls Posted February 20, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2011 I travel with the single serve Horizon organic milks that don't require being kept cold (they're like juice boxes with the straw attached). You can cool them in the ice bucket before you go ashore. Best, Mia
