gargoyle999 Posted February 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2011 from John Heald: Poor Carnival Splendor. So its her first week back and there is a shooting in Mazatlan which although it did not involve any cruise ship guests or tourists was just one incident too many. Carnival has for now decided to skip the port and spend two days in Cabo instead. The saftey of all of you is the top concern of course and I can only hope that Mexico will get a grip of this situation.

pbmsmile Posted February 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 23, 2011 heck, I wouldn't mind if my cruise spent the whole week in Cabo. That seems to be the consensious of everyone on Facebook too. He just posted this and no one seems too worked up about not stopping in Mazatlan. Cabo is AMAZING!!
tootsiescurly Posted February 23, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 23, 2011 heck, I wouldn't mind if my cruise spent the whole week in Cabo. I would!!! We might as well stay in LA!!! I can go spend the week in Malibu and with the exception of the water temp feel like I am in the same place!!!
MikeM Posted February 23, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 23, 2011 My post on FB Would trade Cabo for Maz any day as long as the tenders are running. Please do not substitute Ensanada. Randi's Happy Horses will not be so happy. As far as a grip.....will be years if ever. May cancel if there is more bad news out of Mexico and opt for Caribbean again. DesertArtist1345 Posted February 23, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 23, 2011 hhmmm........ I wonder how long they plan to skip that port? We sail on the 13th of March and were going to do Stone Island. Guess I should start looking at more stuff in Cabo as a back up plan.
Sargent_Schultz Posted February 23, 2011 #8 Share Posted February 23, 2011 I think it was an overreaction, but can understand them not wanting to take any chances with the first sailing in a while for Splendor.

The way he worded his post sounds (to me) like it is for awhile. But so far nothing officially changed on my Feb 27th or March 6th Splendor sailing when I called Carnival. At least the rep know about the change to the sailing this week so that was something.
Martini Mom Posted February 23, 2011 #10 Share Posted February 23, 2011 One shooting in Mazatlan causes an itinerary change for a ship that leaves from Los Angeles?!
lappy22 Posted February 23, 2011 #11 Share Posted February 23, 2011 Good and well overdue. We love sailing the Mexican Riviera but don't like Mazatlan. We only get off the ship for a couple hours and head over to Stone Island for some cheap beers and shrimp. Love the two days in Cabo but they could also add La Paz. I would sail the Mexican Riviera more often if they substituted La Paz for Mazatlan.

gargoyle999 Posted February 23, 2011 Author #13 Share Posted February 23, 2011 John Heald ok, I am back. Just wanted to confirm that the Carnival Splendor will spend 2 days In Cabo san Lucas but not overnight as tendering at night is not safe. I have no idea how long this will continue for but will keep you infomed.

Really ...I was in La Paz last week and was bored stiff.....I can see how in the Future La Paz will be a Nice Tourist Area but as of now they do not have the resources or the Thing to do there...We only Found a few people that spoke English ....several that spoke broken English ....La Paz is working on it...but not ready yet... As far As Mazatlan ...I was there last week as well ...I found it to be a charming place ...I never felt in Danger and our tour guide said that the troubled areas are limited to a small area and promised we would not be that area.... I preferred Cabo But.....I would not want to do Cabo and then Cabo.....I do agree another port is needed but La Paz in Mazatlan's place... no way! Maybe Ixstapa or Manzanilla
lstrong Posted February 23, 2011 #15 Share Posted February 23, 2011 Mazatlan is my favorite port on the Mexican Riviera. It has beautiful beaches, great shopping and I will be totally bummed if Carnival stops going there! No way does Cabo compare in my opinion. photoman100169 Posted February 23, 2011 #18 Share Posted February 23, 2011 This kind of makes me sad. I loved going to stone island and just hangin out. Had plans on going there and getting some horses in about 24 days. Oh well, I will be on a cruise and NOT at work...

Haoie Posted February 23, 2011 #20 Share Posted February 23, 2011 As usual, the losers in this are the local vendors reliant on tourism.
halos Posted February 23, 2011 #21 Share Posted February 23, 2011 Cabo is amazing, but Mazatlan remains one of my most memorable ports. It's sad that this violence takes away the tourism dollars that are so needed in that area.

Have always enjoyed my various Mexican Riviera cruises in the past but Mazatlan has always been the highlight of the itinerary for DH & I. Mazatlan and Zihuat were our favorite ports. Cabo is touristy and being more north means cooler weather and water temp. I will be reaching Cabo ideas as well...:(

riffatsea Posted February 23, 2011 #25 Share Posted February 23, 2011 Here we go AGAIN! IF the Splendor skips Mazatlan then I'd expect the Spirit to do the same! We are on the Mar.11 sailing which was supposed to be in Mazatlan on the 15th. I purposely picked THAT sailing because it did NOT spend 2 nights in Cabo!! #1, We don't like tenders. #2, I think Cabo is the least "Mexican" of the ports and feels like any beach town. I suppose that is why lots of you guys like it. <sigh> We enjoyed our visit to Mazatlan a few years ago and were looking forward to seeing new things this year. Oh well!
