There is also a free shuttle that will take you out of the port and drop you off a few blocks (maybe 4) from the rail station. I've made that 8a.m. train numerous times. No problem. The only trouble I've ever had was last November when the train broke down and we had to change to another track with NO ONE telling us what was happening. We didn't leave the station until after 9 a.m. Otherwise, it has always been a great way to get into Rome. Have fun.

What are train times in moring to Rome and back in afternoon and are they the same all year around. Also do they get so busy you cant get on?

Thanks

There are slight differences in the Trenitalia schedules, but the trains between Civitavecchia and Rome are on a commuter line and are pretty consistent. They can be crowded.

Right now there are four regional trains that cruise passengers can shoot for, depending on the time you arrive:

7:33

7:59

8:41

8:59

Even if it will dock at 04.00 a.m. they will let you desembark around 07.00. so taking a taxi from the dock to the station that takes less than 10 mnts. You should be on time to take the 08.00 train.

What is likely to happen is that the taxis will refuse to take anyone to the local station (even for 20 Euros) since they are all looking for fares to FCO or Rome. If this happens your other option (as mentioned above) is to simply take the free port shuttle bus (these are large buses with plenty of luggage storage underneath) to the port entrance and walk the 4 blocks to the station (simply stay on the street at the entrance keeping the water on your right). As long as you can roll your luggage you should be fine since the walking route is flat with good sidewalks.
