as we all know, the cruise lines are in business to make a profit. if adding a fuel surcharge is what they have to do, well than i am all for it. if we can afford to cruise, i am sure we can all afford a few hundred dollars more. when fuel prices come down the surcharge will be removed. so as they say "grim and bear it".. happy cruising :):):)

I don't see how they can avoid it if fuel prices keep increasing. Allegiant Air is considering a new pricing structure that would allow them to increase the price of an air ticket after it's been purchased for the same reason.

With UK contracts retrospective charges can cause issues for the cruise lines because of the 2% 10% rules on surcharges in the regulations

eg from a RCI T&C.

only if the amount of the increase in our costs exceeds 2% of the total cost of your holiday (excluding any amendment

charges), will we levy a surcharge. If any surcharge is greater than 10% of the cost of your holiday (excluding any amendment

charges), you will be entitled to choose one of options (a), (b) and © as set out in clause 5.5

where 5.5c is

C. cancelling or accepting the cancellation in which case you will

receive a full and quick refund of all monies you have paid to us.

So for very cheap cabins the surcharge could be over 10% so people can cancel for expensive suites could be under 2% so they can't charge it.

Fred Olsen have changed to % charging to get round this issue.
