Working 2 Cruise Posted March 11, 2011 #26 Share Posted March 11, 2011 What happened in Japan is horrible... Hawaii may be hit with a tsunami. I just checked the webcam... It looks like the Golden Princess is on her way to Ensenada... This means that they skipped Honolulu, Kauai and Maui! :( If there are any passengers reading this on the Golden Princess, can you verify this information is accurate? It must be really awful to skip three ports...
LARGIN Posted March 11, 2011 #27 Share Posted March 11, 2011 The Golden did not turn around. It is on the last leg of its cruise and has already ported in Hawaii. It did NOT skip Hawaii.

LARGIN Posted March 11, 2011 #39 Share Posted March 11, 2011 From Princess.. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan especially those directly affected by today’s devastating earthquake. We currently have no ships in Japan, nor are any of our ships considered at risk from any tsunami activity. All Princess passengers, crew and ships are safe. We will be assessing the tourism infrastructure in Japanese ports for our scheduled calls later this month.
mmyorkston Posted March 11, 2011 #40 Share Posted March 11, 2011 Princess just posted on Facebook that all is well with their ships in the Pacific and that they are re-evaluating upcoming stops in Japan at this time.
ASeaPrincess1 Posted March 11, 2011 #41 Share Posted March 11, 2011 This voyage did not follow the normal port sequence, it was backwards for some reason. Yes, Hilo was the last port as opposed to first this time. I imagine it had something to do with the volcano activity. They ported in Honolulu first, then Kauai, then Maui, then Hilo. So they are on their normal itinerary now.
Working 2 Cruise Posted March 11, 2011 #42 Share Posted March 11, 2011 What do you mean they skipped those ports? They were scheduled to depart from Hilo yesterday afternoon at 5 PM, and head back to Ensenada. If they did not miss a port, that is great news, I felt bad for them. Did anyone check the webcam? It looked pretty intense out there...
Jasperdo Posted March 11, 2011 #43 Share Posted March 11, 2011 It must be really awful to skip three ports... We skipped two ports in January due to weather. It was disappointing, but we still had a great cruise. Other posters are correct. This sailing did the ports in reverse order. No ports were missed. I was checking the ship cam every day, and saw it in each port.

Jasperdo Posted March 11, 2011 #46 Share Posted March 11, 2011 Freaky how first the Volcano collapsed in Hawaii, then the 8.9 in Japan and 2 hours later another Volcano erupted in Indonesia. Lots of activity in the "ring of fire." The volcanoes on Hawaii are not part of the Ring of Fire. The Naturalist on the Golden explained to us that a hot spot in the Pacific created the Hawaiian Island chain. This vent is still very active and is causing the current volcanic activity on the Big Island. She said it is completely unrelated to the larger Ring of Fire, which is much closer to the landmasses of North and South America, and Asia. DocM4 Posted March 11, 2011 #47 Share Posted March 11, 2011 I checked the Golden Bridge cam earlier today and it showed it as being enrout the Ensenada???? It was the cruise right after the one we took and sailed on March 2nd -so it's not due there until March 15th. If 'they' don't want to show us what is happening "now" then maybe they should just turn it off.

Jasperdo Posted March 11, 2011 #50 Share Posted March 11, 2011 Anyone know if there is any damage on the islands? thanksIt sounds like the tsunami waves in Hawaii weren't as great as feared. There was only minor flooding, and no major damage reported anywhere.
