How Do I Get an Aft Cabin?

Recommended Posts

I think it really is time and luck. I just booked on NOS about two weeks ago and we are sailing in 2 weeks and I was able to get an aft side cabin with a HUGE balcony. If you are not able to get an aft cabin on the first try just book the cruise and keep an eye on available cabins. people cancel or change their cruises all the time, and you could snap one up if someone lets it go. Hope it helps!

What cabin did you choose? I am in #8390 aft for a 7/10 Eastern Med Cruise on NOS. How do you know those cabins have huge balconies? I would love a lounger on my balcony and hope it holds two!

Last year while on the phone with RCI about 6 months before the cruise, we were discussing which balcony to reserve and the PVP suggesting the AFT Voyager 9390. She said it was the same price as the balcony we were looking at, so we said ok. We loved it! The balcony and view were awesome. It was a long walk and a little bumpier and noisier than we were used to, but we didn't mind. The view and balcony were worth it.

For the corner aft on the Jewel I booked almost 2 years out. When I booked pretty close to sailing on the Liberty for last October I had a JS booked and saw someone say on the roll call that they were cancelling their aft JS so I immediately jumped on it.

About a month ago I decided to add a cruise to a trip my new DW and I are taking to Clearwater, FL in April. I wasn't really aware at the time, but it was just a few days after final payment and Radiance 9256 Corner Aft popped up. I've only cruised a few times and always booked GTY, but when I saw that location I knew it was something special. I actually chose this 5 day cruise over the Carnival Legend 7 day in large part because of that corner aft. We can't wait and I consider us very lucky!

I booked my deck 9 aft on Freedom with a TA. I am very excited about it. The only thing I was a little worried about is that it has a huge port window and a reg. door instead of a slider door. But everyone keeps telling me I will be soooo happy with the room and balcony. I'm suprising my DH with a anniversary cruise. We sail April 2012. I booked in Feb. this year.

The two times I've booked my corner aft cabins I booked them the first or second days RCI started selling the intinerary which means close to 2 years in advance. My Adventure cruise coming up in 3 weeks (4/10/11) was booked 5/27/09. I called the first day the itinerary was open for booking and got it (cabin 7688). Worth the wait.

Cabin 7688 best cabin on the high seas. I have that room in 2 weeks and I dont think it gets better than that room. I would take it over a JS any day!

You seem to love this cabin. Can you tell me why you would choose over a JS?

First time "aft'er" here. Actually got cabin# 7688 for my Sept. Explorer sailing. I guess this is the deck 7 corner aft cabin mentioned above. Can anyone tell me why this cabin is so coveted? I did look at some pics and reviews of this cabin, I see that you don't look right down at the water but through some obstructions. The balcony is huge, though. Would just like some opinions from those who've actually had this cabin. TIA.

The size of the balcony. Almost as large as the cabin itself. Fantastic balcony (I had 7388 on the other side of the ship on Explorer and have 7688 in 3 weeks on Adventure). You can look down at the water if you look through the porthole opening. Really don't see why that's such a big deal myself. I'd rather have the space on the balcony.

I was having a blonde moment and thinking about the voyager class ships, not Freedom class. On Voyager class 7688 has a HUGE balcony, there is usually 2 loungers, 2 chairs and a table with ample room around all of that!

DH and I usually have my younger sister (15) on cruises with us and when we are lucky enough to nab that room she usually sleeps out there and is happy as a bug in a rug.

Lot's of good advice. Booking early is the best, but keep checking back with your TA or RCI direct. We booked a balcony last year for a TA cruise. I really wanted an AFT cabin, but they were booked. The wonderful cruise specialist at RCI told me to keep checking back often because....you never know when one will become available. Well, I did check back....often....in fact, daily. After a week or so (about a month before sailing) BAM! An aft was available and we took it Post Haste! Best decision. Upside: Much larger balcony. Down side (if there is such a thing), a pretty good walk to the shops and theater. (I am disabled so it was a walk, but no regrets...I'd do it again)!

enjoy and good luck!

On our 10/2010 cruise we met the folks staying in #9390 & after we saw their cabin we tried to book it for our next cruise 10/2011 but it was taken, so we took #9690 - the other corner!

What a great balcony!

We took our first Cruise on Carnival and Booked an Aft Corner balcony (wrap around) - booked about 1 yr in advance with no problem.

The hugh balcony was wonderful - only thing with the Aft you tend to feel the vibrations from the screw - but not really a big deal to me as a former US Navy sailor on much smaller vessels.

Good luck!

I wonder if there is any other way than picking up your cabin early enough - by any means. It has worked well for us, we have crossed the Atlantic a couple of times in an aft cabin and to be honest, it is the only way to cross. Breakfast @ your balcony looking onto the backwash is better than one at Tiffany's :)

Once we managed to downgrade our stateroom one or two grades and move into an aft stateroom but it paid well. No compensation for downgrading but far better view and still a tolerable cabin.

We booked our cruise the end of December. Got 2 aft cabins right next to each other. We are on the 8th deck. We also had a choice of cabins on the 7th and 9th decks but after getting some good advice on these boards we chose the cabins on 8.

you have to book early or else just get lucky!

I was able to snag an aft-facing balcony cabin for my DH's very first cruise at final payment time. Now he will not consider anything else. This means we have to plan ahead.

We have an aft-corner (#1688) on the Explorer next. I have an Iphone ap that counts down.....by the hour!

WOO HOO!

Always keep your eyes open at final payment time.....you often see interesting cabins opening if you know what to look for.

Don't worry about it at all! We engaged in conversation with our neighbors above us and found them to be very delightful people. Yo uwill have a amazing time on the aft, its a world in itself.

That's what I'm thinking too - meeting new people was one of the most enjoyable part of our first cruise. :) We are really looking forward to morning coffee on our balcony, and wake-watching! :D

@ cruisegirl1 - LOL! In my head, I'm picturing it to be similar to some condo balconies we've had...no, not private at all! No worries...we don't have any intention of doing anything on our balcony that we don't want our balcony-neighbors to be a witness to! :o

Has anyone got ant photos of these cabins please? We have 1700 on INDY next year and never had an aft before. Thanks.

Do a search for "Show Me Your Aft". It's an older thread with LOTS of pictures of various aft cabins on a variety of RCI's ships.

If you are on a Voyager Class Ship.....go to.... www.voyager-class.com Go into the photos tab and there is an "Aft Cabin" section. You will find photos of ALL aft cabins on voyager class ships here.

You know what they say........."once you go aft"........
