Lanyards around my neck are absolutely just NOT my style. I wouldn't be caught dead in one.

 

I always have some type of bag or purse with me and that where my card will be. I do get it punched in the casino with one of their springy coil thingies and will occasionally wrap it around my wrist but thats where it ends.

 

I would not be caught dead dragging a "purse" around on the ship or in port.

 

Over the years I have found several "purses" left by someone. I have never found a lanyard left by someone.

***For those who think Crocs are above them-- I wear Crocs, b/c they are comfortable. Getting hit by a drunk driver at 23, having my kneecap broken, and having permanent back troubles makes one less inclined to care about the footwear "image" and more concerned with being able to walk.

 

I am an Ole Miss sorority girl who has little trouble knowing how to dress myself. I also know quite well how to conduct myself on and off a ship. So, those who think they are above me and my fashion choices don't concern me...

But, then again... Since I wear a lanyard, it seems that I MUST eat with no utensils, instead shoving my unwashed hands into my overfilled plate of food. I MUST decorate my door with gaudy items. I MUST be rude and uncouth. I MUST be overweight. I MUST make a spectacle out of myself... Did I miss anything?

Since I pay for my own cruises I don't need to impress snobs who I will never see again. I am not hiding my lanyard to impress people who don't financially support me.

Great idea about buying stuff at the dollar store to decorate my cabin door.

I wore it on my last cruise the first two days. I also wore black work out clothes. I kept wondering why I was mistaken as a staff member numerous times. I finally realized that with the lanyard around my neck and wearing all black (almost like a uniform), I did look like I could be a staff member. Needless to say, I wore a wristlet after that and no one stopped me with questions like "Umm, do you work here (at the store)?" ... "Can you show me the closest restroom?" ... "Can you take our picture?" ;-)

For me its totally practical. I travel with hubby who can never hang onto anything and 2 small kids so keeping track of 4 sail and signs without a lanyard is a nightmare. The lanyard may not look the greatest but its totally practical and Im on vacation so I really dont care what I look like as long as I am presentable.

I don't think it looks stupid at all. Very convenient and I've never lost my card. On a cruise before we got lanyards my son lost his card 3 times!

Funny. I wore my Cruise Critic t-shirt and loads of people would come up to me to get me to include one thing or another in my review or to make sure something was changed they didn't like. I couldn't convince anyone it was a message board.

I am a lanyard guy.I lose everything so if its not attached around my neck it would be gone.My mom made me wear them mitts with a string attached to them so I would not loose them as a kid.Maybe thats where I get it from???

I am so used to my lanyard at work , I forget it is even on me .

 

In fact when we moved to the new building we are in at work and were issued lanyards and security cards , one of the ladies I work with said . "I like it, makes me feel like I am on a cruise :"

DH wears his lanyard around his neck most of the time, but it's usually tucked under his shirt then he just pulls it out when he needs it.

 

I used to wear mine that way as well, but on our last cruise there was no safe in the room so I carried my hip purse all the time so just kept it in there.

 

I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks if we were our lanyards around our neck. :)

I understand wearing a laynard for work and croc's for work tho there are far better work shoes than those. I get wearing a logo shirt for work.

I don't get it for vacay or and other time. I understand people want comfert but there are plenty of styles that fit right and look good with out being baggy or sloppy.

 

I just think croc's and fannypack, big teeshirts are just very unflatering.

I also feel that way about polo shirt to.

 

But your right its your vacay so wear what you want.

If you are happy looking that way then go for it!

I wear my lanyard with my Sail and Sign attached...with pride...otherwise I will lose it. I am on vacation and I absolutely refuse to carry a purse around the ship all day. I take it off at port calls and do have a cross chest purse for that and at dinner each night I have a black beaded credit card size purse that I put it in (only cause I do dress up each night and I think the whole red stretchy lanyard does nothing for my look). I dont see the problem or why it bothers others where and how I keep up with my Sail and Sign card.

 

I agree with this - I also wear mine because I do tend to forget where I put things - my least favorite part of menopause - geesh! lol - I actually use the Cruise Critic lanyard with the detachable part at the bottom - love it! Now, I don't wear it on formal night, I do tuck it in my little purse! and I also definitely do not wear it in port.

Can't help with the lanyard but yes, the S&S card is credit card size.

 

I have actually made a few of these for when I go to my Stampin' Up! conventions! They are very easy to do - just go to your local craft store - I love Michaels - and pick some pretty beads, measure how long you want your lanyard and string your beads - attaching the little lanyard clip at the bottom!

Is it really that difficult to carry a wallet/purse/etc. to carry the card and other valuables as you would at home?

You know, one of my childhood friends is someone I've known for 45 years. We still stay in touch. I feel bonded to her because of the longevity of our relationship, and the times -- good and bad -- that we have shared together. But, I haven't seen her in 15 years. I haven't made it a point to get together because she is SO hypercriticial of what others are wearing, doing, or being. I have never understood it, and, as I've gotten older, I simply am not willing to spend any significant amount of time around that negativity.

 

Your post is reminiscent of how she percieves the world.

 

I hope that your friends and family have greater patience for it than I do, because, otherwise, you might find yourself wondering why people pull away from you, when you haven't done anything *to them*.

I have really been enjoying this thread! My husband and I are both wear lanyards on our cruises for our Sail and Sign cards. Why? Well, to me they are extremely convenient. I haven't misplaced a card yet. Another reason - that no one else seems to have pointed out - is that since they hang down in a 'v' from your neckline, lanyards are great at making you appear slimmer! I have read over and over that a v-neck is the best fashion choice since it draws the eye down. So, for those of us who choose to wear lanyards, we actually will appear leaner than some of the other passengers onboard. I'm all for that!
