Hello,

I am planning a Mediterranean cruise in July 2011 with my family, my son 19 and my daughter 14 and i have been wondering which cruise line to choose, I have found one on Holland America Cruise ( Noordam )Line for ten days at the same price than with Royal Caribbean ( Navigator ) for 7. Which company is better? Do teenagers go on Holland America? I have found Holland America interesting but I worry that not may young people go on the cruises. By the way any web pages to book cruises? Thanks for your help

In the Med., it is all about the ports. You don't get very many sea days, the most you see of your fellow cruisers is at meals. Go for the line that gives you the most for your money. You don't say where you are coming from, but if you are flying in, try to get the longest cruise possible.

Community Guidelines forbid discussing travel agents/agencies. EM

Thanks. I know probably Royal Caribbean has got more for children but the other offer is really good, what it worries me is that not many kids go on Holland America, are most of the people who travel with this compny over 50. I live in Tenerife but I will be flying from London to Rome Sorry about asking about agencies, I didn´t know that it was forbidden to give names.

There WILL be kids on HAL....just not as many as on RCI.....so don't worry that your kids will be the only ones!

Presumabley, you're going for the "culture", and not just the ship and amenities.....there will be plenty to do on the ship, but you'll most likely be ashore a good part of the time, and tired the rest of the time!

There will be less kids on Holland than on RCI or Princess.

My experience though is that it doesn't take a lot of kids for the kids to have a good time.

I would also take a look at Princess as they have some very nice itineraries of the Med.

I would second what Keith has said.

I have two daughters aged 13 and 17 years. Last year our cruise was to Scandinavia in term time. There were fewer children than our Med cruise but that did not seem to matter and maybe even made it easier to make friends. Our girls had a fantastic time.

The Med is very popular with families particularly during the Summer so even cruise lines which are less children focused will have an increased number of teens on board.

Also my experience is that teens are more interested in socialising than anything else. Therefore they are less dependent on gimmicks such as rock climbing etc in order to have a good time.

So long as you choose a line which has children's clubs they will have a great time. Your only problem maybe persuading them to leave the ship to visit the ports!

By the way that reminds me it may be a good idea just to check whether the line you are considering would allow you to leave the teens on board if you are visiting the port. Some do not allow this.

Have a great cruise.

I would choose the longer cruise. And speaking from experience, when there are fewer teens on a cruise, they still do find each other. A few years ago, my 15 year old daughter made fast friends with a group including 14, 15, 17, & 19 year olds. Great kids all.

I envy you doing a Med cruise!
