First time Cruiser here going in May and was wondering if there are any Satellite channels offered.

What is the Programming like on the TV's in the Cabins?

Also American Idol will have the final while we are at sea...Do they ever broadcast Network TV on the MUTS for a big show? I thought I read somewhere that when the Super Bowl was on, they showed it on MUTS that night.

Thanks :)

You will not be watching American Idol. Basically CNN, HLN, no network TV. I hope you are not trying to equate the Super Bowl with AI

Set your TIVO as you won't be receiving any network TV while on your cruise, sorry!

The above posters are correct, we just returned from the Emerald Princess. We had around 25 or so channels but none of the "major 4".

No ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox.

And the ones that are cable networks such as Discovery Channel are not current programming but are past shows.

Here is the channel line-up on the Sapphire Princess last January, which is fairly typical on Princess ships. The news and information-type channels are not always available.

Princess channel -- 21 -- highlights sipboard features, onboard services and activities.

Sapphire channel -- 22 -- TV shows and National Geographic specials.

Movie channel -- 23 -- A variety of recent, popular motion pictures

Discovery channel -- 24 -- Produced especially for Princess Cruises, highlighting History, Travel, Technology, Sports, Nature, Science, Cuisine and specials. (Essentially a mixture of popular Discovery Channel programming.)

TNT -- 25

ESPN -- 26

CNN -- 27

Turner Classic Movies -- 28

CNN Headline News -- 29

Family Channel -- 30 -- movies for the whole family

Cartoon Network / Boomerang -- 31 & 32

Port channel -- 33 -- Programming to help you enjoy your time ashore, including rebroadcasts of port talks and shopping information

Voyage channel -- 34 -- Reports from the bridge, itinerary tracking, weather data, etc. along with easy listening music.

Webcam & PA Announcements - 35 -- Views from the Bridge and PA announcements, classical music when announcements not being made

Reflections Souvenir Video -- 36 -- Highlights of the video recording of your voyage, essentially a sales pitch to buy the DVD but sometimes fun to watch.

The Art channel -- 37 - Princess World of Fine Arts

Discover Shopping & Amenities -- 38 -- shopping opportunities sales pitches

Romance channel -- 39 -- Classic romantic movies (many of which are pretty darned good.)

Casino channel -- 40 -- The Casino, never watched it.

Leonard Maltin Movie Channel -- 41 -- A selection of classic and contemporary movies

BBC World -- 42

We got off the Star a week ago. Instead of CNN they had MSNBC and also CNBC. There was no TNT. (This was a change for us. All prior cruises we have been on in the last two years had CNN on the line up and also TNT).

We were on the Coral Feb. 23 to March 5 and they had the Academy Awards on MUTS on Sun., Feb. 27. Not sure if it was on the TV in the cabin as we were not in the cabin during the awards.

However, don't know if they would have AI on the MUTS during your cruise.

Unlikely. They broadcast only events of major interest to most of the passengers. AI's primary demographics are "tweeners" and young adults; not Princess' average passenger demographic. It costs a huge amount of money to broadcast an event on each ship so it's not done unless it's a major event.

First Welcome Aboard!

Once you...

*WARNING*

You may never take another mode of recreation method...

It is a wonderful way!

Princess has been and is a few steps ahead of most of the Cruise Lines too.

If you are a Shareholder in the Parent Firm , Carnival, Trading Symbols of CCl/CUK :NYSE/LSE you obtain a Shareholder benefit , gratis, of OBC ( On Board Credit ) for each and ever Cruise youall take on any/all of there 100 Now 100 Ships!

;)!

In State Room Cabins/Suites are really Hit and Miss at Sea especially.

The Cruise Lines do not want to pay fees so skip a lot of the availability.

Even in a Major American media event such as the World Series ( Baseball ) and the Superbowl ( football) those are not paid for for all staterooms either..

Some have dvd/cd players if you need.
