FloridaPhil Posted May 16, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2011 Hi all, I have a courtesy hold on Navigator that expires this afternoon so would really appreciate a response. I have managed to get an aft room facing backwards over the stern - room 9692. Having never sailed on Navigator I was doing some homework and found that the rear of the ship is encased in some kind of grid structure that the rooms are behind. See photo below. I am concerned that this will obstruct the view from the room. 1. What is it? 2. Does it get in the way? Thanks in advance. Phil
OleSalt Posted May 16, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2011 If you are referring to the horizontal bands, they are part of the fairing. aiding air flow and esthetically pleasing. If you are concerned about the view, this is only waist high, rather like the balcony. If these were omitted, you would fall off the ship. Enjoy the Navigator she is a fine ship. ccMiMi Posted May 16, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2011 Here is a great website to check out. http://voyager-class.com/ The link below takes you to the aft blacony section. http://voyager-class.com/virtualtour/aftbalconies/aftbalconies.html You can then click on your cabin and see photos. It appears that you will not have an obstructed view. http://www.romain-moisescot.com/voyagerclass/albums/cabins/aftbalconies/9-D/gallery/_gallery.html
Aquahound Posted May 16, 2011 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2011 The view from 9692 isn't so bad. I wouldn't go any lower though, unless it's on a corner. I was in 9690, right next door, and this was my view:
FloridaPhil Posted May 16, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted May 16, 2011 Thank you for the fast responses guys! Follow up question:- Is the balcony on these rooms covered? I ask because of a couple of photos I saw on the excellent Voyager-Class website posted by ccMiMi. It appears that the ceiling of the balcony area is partially open? I can't make out what I'm looking at.
Puffinater Posted May 16, 2011 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2011 The cabin is partially covered. Folks in the cabin above can look into the balcony below. We have been in 9692 and 9392 and enjoyed them. The super structure is not bad. Nice deep balcony.
golfer1966 Posted May 16, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 16, 2011 We love the Aft cabins. Some people dont like the structure, but we really dont mind it at all to be honest. You have a broader view on the Aft balconies. Sure there are beams and stuff, but its really not a big deal.....at least to us. ;)
