steverenee Posted May 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2011 Hi We're going on an Alaskan cruise / tour ( # 2) next month. We are new to cruising and to Alaska. I'm wondering if anybody has any experience or ideas on buying a no contract mobile broadband USB for our trip. We have a small laptop computer and this would allow assess mostly for the land portion without needing to find WIFI spots. Just looking for easy ways to stay in touch with family while in Alaska. Thanks !!!
CruiserBruce Posted May 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2011 I would ask this on the Alaska board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55 That way you get everyone's experience in Alaska, not just HAL cruisers.

Thanks !!! My Blackberry (Alltel) and wireless modem (also AllTel) did not have data connectivity in any US port I was in last year while cruising in alaska. (Sitka, Skagway, Ketichikan, or Juneau). Did have access in all the Canadian ports however (Namino, Victoria, and Vancouver). I did have voice abilities off the ship in all ports.

Rare Essiesmom Posted May 25, 2011 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2011 Agree, I had no reception with Alltel data stick in Alaska last year. Check with the carrier to see what their coverage is. EM

Rare Essiesmom Posted May 25, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2011 Ahh... to still be Alltel customers in GA. :) Alltel no more! They threw me out...with their merger with verizon, my tower became roaming, so they shut me off. I had to move to TMobile. EM
