embarkation logistical question

Recommended Posts

We will be taking the train from Seattle on the morning of June 17. Scheduled to arrive in Vancouver at 11:40am. We'd love to just go straight to the Regatta and board and eat lunch on the ship, but I am not sure if that is an option.

Our boarding docs say 3pm embarkation. Is that the earliest or the latest we may board? We are have a simple window cabin, so if they do early boarding for concierge level and above, we would not qualify.

Do we need to eat lunch in the city before boarding? And if we do, may we check our bags with the Regatta, go eat lunch somewhere, and then come back to board later?

Sorry if these are dippy questions. It's our first cruise.

Oceania rarely has much of a line. Your luggage may not be in your cabin 'til later but you can enjoy buffet lunch on the Terrace. You will have to go through US customs and immigration as your next port will be in the USA

Oceania has tiered boarding process. They start first with penthouse/suites, then concierge level, and then standard staterooms. The normal boarding time for standard staterooms is 1 pm even though your forms say 3 pm. However, several factors cans impact the actual time. We had nightmare in Miami where coast guard pulled surprise inspection. We were in concierge class and should have started boarding at 11 am but did not start until 12:30; I don't know what time standard folks got to start but it was late.

There are two piers in Vancouver. I've only ever left from Canada Place which is the main terminal. It's a very nice place with lots of seating, etc. It's also right downtown so you can drop off luggage with porters and then walk around easily.

If your boarding time is 3pm, you may be able to board much earlier but your cabin may not be ready for quite some time. We try to carry on the absolute minimum so we are free to wander around the ship and enjoy it without having to drag a lot of stuff with us.
