Still no news about Charleston and the Fantasy?

Not sure how reliable this info is, but thought I'd share anyway. My husband got a phone call from the Carnival casino people today to try to get us to book a cruise thru them with the % off and casino cash, etc. He told her we were waiting on the announcement about Charleston before we did anything and we were really hoping for a new ship. She told him that Charleston would not be getting a new ship, that the Fantasy would stay there. She said they have the info on all ships thru 2012, and the Fantasy will stay in Charleston. He didn't think to ask about a new itinerary. Again, not sure how much stock to put into that, but will be kind of disappointed if it's true. We loved cruising out of Charleston but didn't really like the Fantasy much.

I wouldn't be too quick to take what John says to the bank!

In May 2010, on the last trip of the Fantasy from Mobile, my family & I (along with several hundred other passengers) heard John publicly promise that Mobile would get "more ships & bigger ships". You know what happened after that!

yesterday I did a search on cruise ships sailing out of Charleston. A web site for a large on line cruise agency came up (one I have used before) with a list of Fantasy sailings out of Charleston...including Bermuda sailings in the summer months.

My youngest is moving to Charleston this week...which is why I was interested to know.

Anyway, these sailings were there and booking was available....don't know if that means anything or not...

Are you talking about bookings showing up for SUMMER 2012, or this year? There are definitely bookings available for this year, it is past April 2012 that we are worried about! :)

The 7-day itinerary is not bad: Nassau, Half Moon Cay, and Grand Turk (no Freeport!!) :D

We did this itinerary last September...HMC and Grand Turk two of my favorite ports....so if the Fantasy stays let's hope they offer more than just a few 7 day cruises:):):)

Looks like we will get news tomorrow. Per John Heald on Facebook:

For those of you looking to book a cruise for Charleston for 2012 and beyond.........tomorrow will be your day to sing "If Your Happy And You Know It Y'all Clap Your hands." .

He also posted:

we will open Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty and Carnival Glory beyond October, 2012 in 2 weeks time..........think you are going to like this as well !

This leaves Freedom as the only ship with the schedule not posted past 10/2012. I am hoping this may be a sign... Maybe not, but it is fun to talk about anyways. ;) :p

I love the Conquest class of ships! We sailed the Glory twice and I'd sail her, or her sister ship, again if they come to Charleston!!!!!!

But the question is, where would you be able to smoke those smelly cigars now that the cigar bars are history?

They are going to pull Fantasy from Charleston and anchor it far enough out at sea as to be a distant foreign port of call for cruises from NY. It will be a smoke stop for all the deprived smokers on board.

sounds good to me, another port!!!!

From John Heald this morning-

I will be back later but congratulations to Charleston who keep the Carnival Fantasy in their beautiful town. We will change the pattern to offer more 5 day cruises which have been very popular. We will keep the 7 day option, but eliminate the 6 day cruises. Bookings open later today. Cheers

Ugh, I hope that all of those 5-days aren't just Nassau/Freeport, hoping for more HMC. I wonder if that means they are eliminating the 6-day to Bermuda? I actually sort-of like the 6-day that includes Key West.

Sad part is, That's all I saw today updated on CCL. They have added 5 night May sailing Nassau and Freeport...Errrrrr Hopfully they will add more with HMC.

So far it look like were gona have to travel the extra 2-1/2 hrs to Jacksonville to get our HMC port stop.

They did add a 7 night cruise that goes out every other month or so. It goes to Nassau, HMC and Turk. Not too bad. The 5 night itinerary is the same. At least they stayed, which may open the door for new ships or expanded itineraries in the future.;)

They have done the 7-day several times this year.... I know at least 3 cruises in July, and we are booked on it in August. :)
