Food <-> cruise price

Recommended Posts

Does the quality of the food depend on the cruise price? The price of our Voyager of the seas cruise was very low at the weekends so i wonder if this changes the quality of food(maybe less expenses for food)?

RCCL uses common catering/provisioning so all the ships should receive much the same quality food with some fresh stuff sourced locally. So generally the cruise price does not equate with quality of food.

My meals on Enchantment, Brilliance, Legend, and Voyager has all been pretty much the same and all of the ships sailed from different ports with Voyager being the only one sailing from the USA.

The biggest driver of cruise prices within a cruise line is supply and demand - if supply exceeds demand prices get low [better some income (and on-board sales potential which is really where cruise lines make their money) than none]. All RCI food comes from the same warehouses no matter how much the cruise costs. Food reviews are very subjective, and have to be taken with a grain of salt. Almost everyone will say that cruise food is not what it was twenty years ago, but prices are MUCH lower than they used to be also.

Now if you are discussing food differences between a luxury line which charges ten times what RCI charges, then the food better be significantly better. But I've never come close to starving on any ship.:rolleyes:

The price within a cruiseline does NOT affect the quality of food onboard....supply and demand for a particular sailing is what affects the prices.

Now, the quality of food/presentation does vary from cruiseline to cruiseline....
