I miss the old Singapore - the hawker centres where you could get chicken rice for $1.50 and teh o for 5o cents - and the wet markets

:)

Like this ?:p

I took it in 1967

Looking from North Bridge Road up towards the old fire station.

That particular street I'm looking down is no longer there.

Best get back on topic I guess. :o:o;)

You learn something new every day. What a productive topic and some positive and insightful discussion!

I like the idea of no cigarettes -- I don't smoke, I have relo's who do and am quite vocal about that (managed to get one of three to stop). Off topic, but I really don't understand our laws here... no smoking inside, but everyone huddles around a building entrance so to get in/out the building you have to walk through a 1km strip of smokers, lol.

Re: size of Singapore port. It is from memory, largest in southern hemisphere and definitely in the top 3 depending if you measure by tonnage, units, etc -- either way it sounds huge so I am sure visually massive!

I miss I think it was called the Satay Club where you strolled around and chose bits from different stalls. I also remember being shocked at the armed guards at the airport the first time I was there...so unused to seeing weapons back then.

Mark and I had our honeymoon in Singapore and Hong Kong 32 years ago...it is modern and clean now but somehow lacks the exotic attraction it had then.....its still a great destination.

Yeah, have to agree.

Good firms actually don't permit that, but others are more lax. It's not a good look.
