Odyssey Excursion Question

LMO

Recommended Posts

We will be on the Odyssey for a Greek Isles/Turkey cruise on August 29th. We will be visiting Rhodes and are trying to decide between 2 of the ship's excursions. One is an excursion to Lindos and the other is an excursion to a Greek tavern to watch and participate in cooking some Greek dishes. Although we've heard that Lindos is extremely crowded and touristy, we don't want to miss an opportunity to see it if it's worthwhile. I know this is probably a personal decision, but any help you can provide is much appreciated! Thank you so much!

Lindos is very interesting. You could do this on your own steam. Its not far really from the Port to lindos.

We tend to do, not always, our own excursions as we often find with SB lots of faffing around ie toilet stops, shopping etc ( of course you may like this) You could in the afternoon have a toddle yourselves around the fascinating ancient walls-a must see and do.

kind regards

We were in Rhodes on the Spirit two years ago and just hired a car and driver at the dock. Agreed to a price/time and went out to Lindos for the morning. We thought it was very interesting and didn't seem all that crowded. The bays on either side are very nice...nice photos. Then we had the driver drop us on the far side of the old town and walked back through town to the ship.

If the timing works maybe you could do both ..the Tavern and cooking - ship's tour then hire taxi/car for several hours and go out to Lindos before or after.

We did the ship's excursion to Lindos on our Odyssey cruise in October. We had a wonderful guide who kept us all amused on the drive. We really enjoyed the pretty town and the stunning views from the Acropolis. It was not overly crowded there at all. I thought it was a well worth while excursion and we still had plenty of time to explore the old city in the afternoon.

We were on the Odyssey in Rhodes last September. I, being the cook in the family (DW is the sommelier), took the cooking class. it was interactive (the taverna owner basically had the hardware and ingredients laid for us (about 10 of us) and walked us through the steps to do the preparation. Turned out very well. The Odyssey's exec chef (Fritz) and Pam Conover (it was the President's annual cruise) were also in the class, which added to the fun. Highly recommended.

If this is your first time to Rhodes also be sure to try to save a couple of hours to tour the walled city which is just a few minute walk from the cruise ship terminal. There are some historical sites to see right there and the surrounding area is just nice to walk around.
