gailellen12 Posted June 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2011 Hi - On which of the Society Islands are you docked right at the island; ala Tahiti ?;) On my tour, I am also assuming that Rangiroa and Fakarava will definitely be requiring tenders to the atolls! Thanks, Gail
FlightMedic555 Posted June 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2011 I did not do the 10 night but we never were docked except for Tahiti. On Moorea, Bora Bora, Huhaine and Taha'a it is a tender.
Cruising Librarian Posted June 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2011 The boat docks at the port in Raiatea. Not sure if that's on your itinerary.
Emdee Posted June 24, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2011 Raiatea and Papeete are the only two ports where the PG docks. It is really immaterial most times as the tenders are fairly regular and the ship is small. The only time I really hated the tendering was with the high swell in Aitutaki where it took over 45 minutes just to fill one tender. In Aitutaki the ship anchors out of the lagoon. MotuIslander Posted June 25, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 25, 2011 The Societies and Tuamotus are all surrounded by atolls and the water is calmer than your average lake. As Emdee points out, the more remote islands (Marquesas, Cooks) are a different matter entirely; much younger and rougher coastline. Also, tendering works fine on a 300 pax ship. Not a big deal typically.
