flashdog_1 Posted June 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2011 Is there a place where you can check your carry on until cabins are ready? NCL had a bar where you could do that. I remember lugging it on Celebrity. What about on Princess? Thanks
Toto2Kansas Posted June 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2011 Princess is different and 99.9% of the time, you will not board your ship until all cabins are ready for occupancy. So you can go directly to your cabin to store your carry on. ;)
Mom33 Posted June 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2011 Just drop them off in your cabin and go explore the ship and have lunch.:D
paul929207 Posted June 24, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2011 Just one more is thing about Princess - your cabin will be ready when you board. Just drop carryons there.
flashdog_1 Posted June 24, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted June 24, 2011 I had read reviews that said that, but I figured they were not in the early group (which I intend to be). Hope to have a cabin assignment by then, too. ha. Two weeks to go and no assignment. Hope that's good news since we have a guarantee.
katisdale Posted June 24, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2011 We have boarded as early as 11 AM and as late as 3 PM and always went directly to the cabin.
mebjul8 Posted June 24, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2011 I am 65 days out and just called Princess about the cabin assignment. She said that it's usually to your advantage to get your cabin assignment later. So, I am going to be patient.
RebelSoul Posted June 24, 2011 #8 Share Posted June 24, 2011 We always arrive at the embarkation port early and are usually one of the first, if not the first groups on board. In 15 cruises on Princess, our cabin has always been ready when we board the ship. It's always great to unpack the carry-ons, have lunch in the MDR or buffet, then start exploring and not have to sit in a lounge and/or lug around carry-ons for a couple hours. Not bashing the other lines, but Princess definitely gets bonus points for having the ability to go directly to our cabin. We think it's a huge plus and one of the many reasons why we love and stick with Princess.
Pam in CA Posted June 24, 2011 #9 Share Posted June 24, 2011 I've taken quite a few Princess cruises and my cabin has always been ready when I boarded. I think they don't start embarkation until they're ready. It's nice that you can start your cruise immediately on Princess. :) Also, unlike HAL and Celebrity, your first newsletter of activities and schedules, the Princess Patter, will be waiting in your cabin. On HAL last April, there was no daily newsletter given out or in the cabin (no way to know what time Muster was or anything else) and Celebrity gave you one at check-in, not in the cabin. bbum Posted June 27, 2011 #10 Share Posted June 27, 2011 Only once in 19 cruises with Princess that our cabin wasn't ready, and that was on the Tahitian departing out of Tahiti, where they let the disembarking passengers stay on board (although you had to be out of your cabin around 10) until around 5 or 6 PM before taking them to the airport. Not a big deal, as we just did like everyone else and lugged our carry ons to the buffet. After lunch, checked the cabin and it was ready. Ship was a bit crowded until people left for the airport. Have to admit on disembarkation day it was nice to sit by the pool for the day, instead of sitting in an airport all day for a late night flight. This was a total exception and all things considered a bit of a different situation.
treasure4two Posted June 27, 2011 #11 Share Posted June 27, 2011 Once we have unpacked our luggage(all carry on size), do they fit under the beds? I ask because everything I have read talks about the cabin steward putting them someplace outside of the cabin. Thank you.
as19111 Posted June 27, 2011 #12 Share Posted June 27, 2011 The carry-ons and mid-size (26") will definitely fit under the bed. You can also tuck them upright in the corners of the closet. Consider nesting your empty bags for even more room!
paul929207 Posted June 27, 2011 #13 Share Posted June 27, 2011 We have always fit our bags under the bed. The other choices would be in the closet (small) or a corner (in the way).

treasure4two Posted June 27, 2011 #15 Share Posted June 27, 2011 Thanks for the answers. One less thing to think about, even though minor, I am a real planner.
