Canada - NCL 9/24/11

Recommended Posts

Have a look here. A recent cruiser has posted some excellent port guides: www.TomsPortGuides.com

However for Sydney, Tom has not visited Louisbourg and most people agree that is the number one attraction. Second would be Baddeck (Bell Museum) and Iona (Highland Village).

For Halifax you can just wander the waterfront (including the Maritime Museum) and find plenty to do for the day. Or you can go to Peggy's Cove for a half day and then go to the waterfront.

Last Fall when we stopped in St. John, NB on NCL Spirit we took the ship's Fundy Trail Excursion. It took us out to St. Martin and then on up the Fundy Trail. It included a wonderful lunch. We were able to see the tidal difference in St. Martin from when we went up and when we came back. We really liked this tour and would do it again if ever we do this cruise again.

Hi Tom: I am sending you an email.

Louisbourg is fully open between June 1 and October 15. Outside those times I feel its impact upon the visitor and the total experience would be severely diminished.

When it is fully open, you get to take a step back in time to 1744 and immerse yourself into the life of a French military outpost.

Tom, we missed Louisbourg on our last trip because we got there around October 16 or so. We're headed back next year, and that's the first excursion I'm going to arrange (probably renting a car). It looks like a wonderful experience.

Orcavision, if you're into photography at all, Peggy's Cove is fantastic. My photos of Halifax and Peggy's Cove start at this link, but be sure to go to the next page to see even more. It's another place that's high on my list for a repeat excursion.
