conchead Posted July 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2011 Yes, I know the new smoking policy has been out for a while but did you notice the last part? Q. What is the smoking policy? A. Effective June 15, 2011, cigarette smoking in public venues will only be permitted in Carnival’s dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar. Smoking (including cigars) will be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas (starboard side) of all our ships. Additionally, smoking will also be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Pride, Carnival Legend, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendor. * All Spa suites and staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, are an entirely smoke-free environment. * Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony. Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival’s ticket contract. Note: Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes are only allowed in the designated smoking areas.

Balconybaby Posted July 19, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2011 As a non-smoker, I like some of the changes. What I was hoping for was smoking on starboard side of ship only . We always book the port side. Sounds like any balcony is okay to lite up out there. I love my balcony, but now may have to share with the smokers.:(. cawagner Posted July 19, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 19, 2011 Did you see this thread..... http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1436799&highlight=e+cigarettes I searched and found it.....and I did respond because I cannot believe they would do that to e-cigs... http://www.greensmoke.com/ Those are the ones we use and they work great...all kinds out there, guess it's just up to personal preference and you get a plastic card to carry in your wallet that says... "The Green Smoke unit is not a cigarette. It does not contain tobacco, It does not produce second hand smoke. AS SUCH IT IS NOT SUBJECT TO ANY STATE OR FEDERAL 'NO SMOKING' LAWS. The 'smoke like' vapor that emits is not smoke. It is made up of 99% water, up to 1% nicotine. If any, and other non-harmful elements such as flavoring. Please allow this Club Member to continue using their Green Smoke unit in your establishment or transport vehicle. They are NOT smoking."
LHP Posted July 19, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 19, 2011 As I posted on the other thread....I expect Carnival to allow E-Cigs everywhere except the Main Dining Room and the Main theater.... It is going to take awhile to get enforcement of these new regs in place and I am sure this E-Cig restriction is just to stop their staff and crew from wasting time with false alarms. But when the smoke settles and everyone is aware of the new regs....I fully expect Carnival to relax the E-Cig rules....
conchead Posted July 19, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted July 19, 2011 Did you see this thread..... http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1436799&highlight=e+cigarettes Did you read the second post on this one? But when the smoke settles and everyone is aware of the new regs....I fully expect Carnival to relax the E-Cig rules.... I would hope so. I am not one that is a huge John Heald follower as some are, but the other thread had comments made by him, that basically said the crew are overlooking the enforcement of this new part of the rule. I am thinking about getting an eCig before we cruise, if I can fine one locally and cheap enough. I don't want to make a huge investment on something that I might not like. If I like it and it works, then I would probably get a better one.
Gigirn Posted July 19, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 19, 2011 There is NO SMOKE with E-Cigs, I would feel free to use mine anywhere INCLUDING my cabin...there's no smoke...and no after fumes. CanWeGoYet? Posted July 19, 2011 #14 Share Posted July 19, 2011 The only reason I can think of for restricting E-cigs, is one of enforcement / confrontation between staff and passengers. Say you have an area that is supposed to be non-smoking now, use the piano bar for example. You have 3 E-cig users, and 1 or 2 actual cigarette smokers. The cigarette smokers need to be weeded out from the E cig people, takes extra time & it increases the chance for passengers to feel hassled, staff to be perceived as getting in people's faces & being a downer, to say nothing of the fact that they probably have other duties besides playing cigarette police. If you've seen how some staff have a hard time confronting passengers who break the rules (rowdy kids, chair hogs, line cutters etc) it seems like it may be a policy aimed at making their jobs easier. Not all staff walk on eggshells, but I've seen quite a bit of it. I'm sure there can be consequences for them if passengers complain, even if they were only doing their jobs & being polite (in the case of a he-said she-said & no witnesses). legion3 Posted July 19, 2011 #15 Share Posted July 19, 2011 Maybe its not just the smell, the second hand smoke that is the only problem. Maybe people don't want to see you smoking, maybe its considered a bad habit, like biting your nails, walking barefoot in a resturant, spitting, picking your nose etc... I don't know but many zealots in the anti-smoking march (which has gathered speed) are not likely to be impressed with E-Cigs no matter how unoffensive they may or may not be. near the beach Posted July 19, 2011 #16 Share Posted July 19, 2011 It is probably easier for Carnival to say no e-cigs than to check out everyone who may or may not be somking real cigerates.

travelplanner4thefamily Posted July 23, 2011 #20 Share Posted July 23, 2011 I have been a non-smoker-personal vapor for over 3 months and the last thing I want to do is sit in the smoking section when I'm a NON-SMOKER. I don't like the smell and smoke either. If I'm a non-smoker why should I be subjected to second hand smoke and the smell too.

Crusin6 Posted July 23, 2011 #22 Share Posted July 23, 2011 well..we never book balconies because of the smoking...which will only increase on the balconies now.... and we never are able to enjoy certain venues..or spend money there..like the Piano Bar... so unless all the entertainment venues go non smoking..I guess will will not be booking another CCL cruise...oh wait... our last cruise was NCL..no indoor smoking entertainment venues..so we spent some bucks.. our next cruise is PCL (yes, I know who the parent company is)...so let's see if the new smoking policy there is to our liking...maybe..maybe not..let's just see regardless, I have said it here many times...the times are changing..and before your know it...cruise ships will mirror land based smoking policies...just a matter of time..thankfully
Packerfan4 Posted July 23, 2011 #23 Share Posted July 23, 2011 So it sounds like to me then that the only people that will have fun then is the smokers. Unless you want to go into clubs and subject to second hand smoke.
Sparetiming Posted July 23, 2011 #24 Share Posted July 23, 2011 My family is thrilled with this new policy...any restriction is better than none. We all suffer from asthma and the liberal smoking policy of the past was always hard for us to deal with especially in the casino. Last cruise we left the casino when it got crowded because of the smoke. Many of the players at the card tables sat right next to you and puffed away all night...not tolerable. As the evenings got later many young adults just hung out in the bar area of the casino and smoked. They did not even gamble just smoked and drank. I am also glad they did away with smoking in the rooms including balconies because so many people smoked in their rooms you could smell it down the hallways. I often wondered why they did not make certain decks smoking and others nonsmoking...or at least part of the deck. It was always horrible to get a cabin after a smoker just moved out. I hope all the cruiselines adopt a stricter smoking policy...I think they should allow smoking it outside areas only...period!!!

It sounds like you really are not ready to be a non smoker.
