A question for the ladies...

I've never understood exactly what people need to carry around all the time. I put my sign-n-sail card in my pocket or in hubby's pocket. Pool items go in the pool bag - sunscreen, iPod, Kindle, towels, camera. When we're just walking around, the camera can go in a pocket or on my wrist. What else do you need?

My regular 'purse' is smaller than most wallets- a 6x4 wristlet.

Started the kids and DH from the getgo that I'm no one's sherpa.:p

Onboard the only things I carry or wear are my lanyard and the day's tearoff schedule. If I need to carry more I'll use an Amerbag baglett.

Onshore I carry a small Ameribag and use the baglett as my wallet.

Yes. Since my "full size every day purse" is basically a wallet on a keychain. One of those cute little jobbies from Vera Bradley. I even keep a carabiner on the ring so I can hook it to myself as needed.

I hate being encumbered by anything.

On the Dream I bought this great over the shoulder bag that is just big enough to hold my video camera, still camera, and other little things I need, like a notepad to get email addresses, etc.

The thing I love about it is it is padded on the inside and has 2 different compartments, then on the flap, is another padded one.

Of course it has Carnival on the front of the flap, but that doesn't bother me.

No regular bag for me! A few cute evening bags for dinner & shows, a beachbag or backpack for excursions. Around the ship during the day, no bag, I guess I don't carry that much around with me, maybe a lipgloss & a drink:p

Ditto! :D

Nope! :D! I have a small red leather crossbody Kate Spade...just big enough for my S&S card, sunglasses, a lipstick & some cash! Then I'll pack an evening bag, also small.

My regular bag gets put into the closet the day of embarkation, & doesn't come out again until the cruise is over.

I carry my purse onboard and then switch my s&s, camera & chapstick (a must) to my whristlit and carry that for the rest of the cruise. I just lock up my purse in the safe for the rest of the trip. That is one thing I love about cruising, you don't have to carry around a purse all day :p

Kleenex, lip gloss, hairbrush, hairclip/scrunchie, camera. I frequently wore sundresses that had no pockets. I also despise buffets, so rarely had to concern myself with schlepping a food tray while carrying a shoulder bag. :D

I never carry a purse while onboard and cannot imagine needing one. If it doesn't fit in my pocket, I will just go back to the cabin for whatever I need.

On excursions, I will carry a very small purse to carry ID, HealthCare card, one credit card, money, camera and sunglasses.

Think 7 iinches by 9 inches.

I noticed several people mentioned Vera Bradley ~ and even though I own several Vera Bradley bags, I do not own stock in them ~ but wanted to post this anyway...

The video below is why I travel to/fro ports with a Vera Bradley Mini Hipster...

http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/6/71/VeraBradleyMiniHipster28Peacock29/297108

I don't know that lady but I loved her video and I purchased a mini hipster immediately after watching. It works great for me for walking around a city all day, airports, etc.

IF you are someone looking at a Vera crossover/shoulder or hipster... please note there are THREE sizes... the regular hipster (big enough for books), the mini hipster (shown in this video), and a tiny traveler (too tiny for anything, IMHO). Big difference in sizes & prices, FYI. ;)

And again... once I'm on the ship... Sign n' Sail card in my pocket only!

Do you carry your full size, normal everyday purse, while on a cruise? I never noticed this till my last cruise, but saw several women walking around the ship with their full size handbags. Standing in line at the buffet, juggling a bag just doesn't appeal to me, so I was just wondering what the general feeling is on this. When I am home, I use my bag to pretty much carry everything I might need while I am out and about. However while on a cruise, all I carry is a small crossover bag that holds my room key, a camera, and maybe some lip gloss. I am essentially hands free a majority of the time. I got to thinking about this because I am cruising with my grandson in 2 weeks and will be bringing my Nook with me, which is new since I last cruised. I am thinking I will need a new bag to hold it, along with the room key and camera, but would still like to remain hands free. I just can't imagine fumbling with my full size bag while wandering the ship. What is you take on the handbag issue? Full size everyday bag, scaled down bag, or none at all?

i took my little coach crossbody this time..i wish i had taken my full size. mine has the ability to be a crossbody as well so its great :) BUT i didnt carry much around on the ship...left most things in the safe. when we were up on the deck i had a lululemon bag for my book and towel, suncreen, etc.

I absolutely LOVE my Vera Bradley hipsters! I use the big one when boarding, and switch to the mini for evenings. During the day, I use my VB lanyard/ID holder - my S&S card is on the outside, and on the inside is a lip gloss, money for the casino, my debit card (use it only when we're off the ship), and my driver's license (ID for getting back on the ship when in port). If we're going to hang at the pool, I usually throw everything we need in my beachbag. I don't use a full-sized handbag at home, why would I bring one on a ship?

I don't carry a purse around when I cruise. I am on vacation so I don't want to have to worry about it. Plus, I really don't need one because my hubby and I spend the whole cruise together and he puts the camera in his pocket and my S&S card in his wallet. Back home I am the one with all the misc stuff in my purse so I really enjoy my time sans purse!

We do have a beach bag for when we are lounging around the pool but we usually share carrying it.

None at all.

S&S goes on a lanyard around my neck

I have a camera (Digital SLR) so I have the camera case

And while in port, we usually will bring my VB small duffle, which serves as my beach bag for towels/sunblock if we are doing a beach or snorkel excursion

no. no. and heck no.

like you, i don't want to have to fumble with it all the time. i tend to wear clothes with pockets and/or carry a small "across the body" bag to hold the essentials (room key, tip money, chapstick, cell (includes music and camera))

I am not one to use a purse on the cruise. Hubby carrys his dslr. We each have our own Sign and sail, I have inhaler and chapstick and all that fits into a pocket. I have a beach bag if we use the pool. When we go ashore I have Pacsafe Metrosafe 100. Love this bag. I have black but the bag and the straps are slashproof. So I do not worry about slash and grabs in crowded places. It is the size of my other slings as well. not too bulky. A little pricey for the size but holds up and keeps going

No purse for me. I have a hipster from Le Sportsac that I bring on board for embarkation. I usually leave the big bag at home. Once on board I switch to my camera bag which is small about 6" x 4" it has a long adjustable strap that I wear cross shoulder. It fits my camera, sail and sign card, lip balm and phone. Thats all I need. I may bring on an evening bag for the elegant nights. While in port it matters what we're doing. If we are going to the beach I'll bring a tote bag for the snorkel gear, sunscreen, hat, towels, id and my kindle.

My normal purse is big enough to carry my wallet, check book, a pack of cigarettes, medication and my cell phones, and even THEN I get lost looking for things in it! I couldn't even imagine something bigger. I have never understood the need to have a giant purse that I can fit everything in my house in. If I am going out.. why would I need a book or magazine? Why would I need a full set of beauty products? Maybe it's the tom boy in me still but I just can't fathom NEEDING all that type of stuff to go grocery shopping! :D

My little purse with go into the safe for the duration of our cruise. I already bought lanyards for our cruise (found ones for my football team at my local store).

I will be getting a new back pack for excursions though for this year. I am used to having my mother and my step father along with my DH and 2 DS's. My parents are the type of bring everything, so they would always bring all the stuff for excursions. This time I have to do I need something to bring towels, change of clothes, bug spray and sun screen in.

When I travel and on excursions in Port I carry my Ameribag (medium) size. DH calls it the ever expanding bag because just when you think it is full, you can shove something else it it. It is like a backpack but goes across the body so your hands are free.

Also when I am in port and shopping, I turn it around so that the "bag" portion is across my body in front and harder for someone to steal.

On the ship I usually carry my beach safe that I bought on cruise critic years ago. They may be $5 bucks and are available. It carries my room key and my $5 per day casino allowance in it just fine and goes around my neck. You can also use your beach safe when swimming or snorkeling and use it for Driver's license, credit card, money or travelers checks and they won't get wet. I don't usually carry a purse unless it is an evening bag.
