calgalcruiser Posted March 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2005 We'll be on a New England/Canada cruise this summer, and rather than purchasing paintings on the ship at the art auction, I'd like to buy something painted by a local artist at one of the ports we'll be stopping in. We'll be visiting Bar Harbor, Halifax, Sydney, Charlottetown, Quebec City and Montreal. Any suggestions where we could purchase reasonably-priced art in any of these ports? Thanks for any suggestions.
Schplinky Posted March 23, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2005 In Halifax, head to the Historic Properties area. It would be a 15 min walk from the ship and there are a number of galleries. Also, if you take an excursion to Peggy's Cove, there are a number of rather good shops specialising in folk art.
babylene Posted March 24, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 24, 2005 We bought some paintings at the art galery in the Chateau Frontenac. I forget the name of the galery, but they have a branch at the Manoir Richelieu in Charlevoix. In Charlevoix, there are many galeries in Baie St. Paul and Mabaie. In Montreal, there are excellent galeries on Sherbrooke St. between Peel St. and Guy St. There are also excellent galeries on Greene Avenue in Westmount. Happy shopping!
