BigDfromTN Posted July 21, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 21, 2011 We stayed at the Hampton Inn Downtown this month. Had to call property to get the rate and remind them of the deal on their website to get the published rate. Nice place. Convention center is closer to the port but we stayed downtown as some wanted to visit Bourbon st. for the first time. http://www.neworleanshamptoninns.com/new-orleans-cruising.php
firefly333 Posted July 21, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Depends on if you need cruise parking or not what people would recommend. there are suggestions on the gulf ports departures boards .. if you want cruise parking, Holiday Inn superdome or Drury usually used. hotwire is fine if you dont need cruise parking. DebBrown Posted July 21, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Anywhere in the French Quarter area or the convention center area. I have been to NOLA MANY times but have never sailed out of there. That is on my bucket list. :)
jrdbrn Posted July 21, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2011 The real question is budget. Depending on what you want to pay... you can stay at Harrahs and be really close.
finsupcruiser Posted July 21, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 21, 2011 We are staying at Quality Inn on OKeefe in Jan 2012. Never sailed from NOLA. We chose this hotel because it is close to French Quarter and has excellent reviews on trip Advisor. We shall see.

Kidsgoneletscruise Posted July 21, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Spring Hill Suites is a fantastic hotel to stay at and just a short walking distance to the convention center/port. It is over on the West side of the French Quarter, away from all the hustle and bustle but yet close enough you could walk right into the middle of it if that is what you'd like to do. It's also very kid friendly; which is why we chose to stay there many times. ;)
Cinderose Posted July 21, 2011 #9 Share Posted July 21, 2011 We too stayed at the Hamptons Inn by the port on Convention center street. Cant remember if they picked us up from the airport for free and we paid a small fee to be shuttled to the pier (5 min away) or the other way around. Hotel was nice and we walked to downtown New Orleans for dinner and drinks and did Mardi Gras. Just go in a group when walking - some of the side streets are scary dark. Taxis are not expensive either if you can find one.
arkansascruising Posted July 21, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 21, 2011 We booked the same hotel and had to do the same thing, actually they gave me a summer rate when I called. Is it walking distance to the port?
momof5k Posted July 21, 2011 #11 Share Posted July 21, 2011 We were in NOLA in January and stayed at the Drury. It was GREAT! The staff was super helpful, the breakfast and the evening kick back was good, and everything we wanted to do was an easy walk or street car ride away so we didn't move the car from the the time we checked in (one day before our cruise) until we left for home (two days after our cruise). We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

arkcruiser52 Posted July 23, 2011 #15 Share Posted July 23, 2011 Was thinking about booking the Marriott Courtyard at the Convention Center. Wondering if anyone has any info on it?. Im really having a hard time finding a hotel with the parking..
bptex Posted July 23, 2011 #16 Share Posted July 23, 2011 I've stayed at the Drury twice, loved it both times. You can walk to the port but it's a good distance. I'd estimate at least a 30 minute walk, about half of which can be done through the mall and Harrah's. It'd be a lot shorter and nicer if they didn't lock the doors from the mall to the port. Then they have a "no pedestrian" area that adds another 1/4 mile but I just ignored the signs and followed the crew to the luggage area. It's also an easy 5 minute walk to Canal St, which is the intersection to Bourbon.
SCUBA Mark Posted July 23, 2011 #17 Share Posted July 23, 2011 Was thinking about booking the Marriott Courtyard at the Convention Center. Wondering if anyone has any info on it?. Im really having a hard time finding a hotel with the parking.. We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard before a cruise. They had a cruise package where you got to leave your car there for free during the cruise. It is about 3 blocks from the cruise terminal. I dropped everyone off and drove back to the hotel to park. Then I walked 3 blocks back to the cruise terminal. When we got back, I walked to to the hotel to pick up the car and went pack to pick everyone up. I found the offer through the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau Here is the link http://www.neworleanscvb.com/static/index.cfm/contentID/505/sectionID/2/subsectionID/0 I found a description of their cruise package on their web site http://www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-deals/msymc-new-orleans-marriott-at-the-convention-center/

Rare mitsugirly Posted October 30, 2011 #19 Share Posted October 30, 2011 Another vote for the Drury Inn. Wonderful staff and beautiful hotel with nice rooms. They serve free soda drinks and snacks and at night they have their "kickers" menu...a dinner buffet if you will. It also comes with 3 FREE alcoholic drinks...and yes they are good and yes they are strong! Free breakfast in the morning (buffet) and free internet and I believe phone calls. You can't beat the price for everything you get. It saves some $$ on meals. (If you look online and do a search for coupons, you can probably find some $$ off). They do have a pool and hot tub on the top of the building as well.
