NCL Star - Oct 30 to Nov 6 - docking vs tenders

Hi,

We are sailing on the Star from Oct 30 to Nov 6, stopping in Belize, Roatan, Cozumel and Costa Maya.

Can anyone tell us in which ports the ship will dock, and in which ports the ship will tender? We are considering arranging our own excursions and want to take this information into account.

If tendering, does anyone know how close to a main town you are taken? Assume you are picked up from the same location...

Thanks,

Belize is a tender port. Expect about a 30-minute+ tender ride to Belize City.

Roatan - docked.

Costa Maya - docked.

Cozumel - usually you are docked BUT you could be tendered. It all depends on how many ships are in port on a given day and the rotation that is used.

NCL always docks in Cozumel. Belize is the only tender on this trip.

That's what I used to say about Princess and I found myself on a tender at the furthest spot we could be tendered at. We were the lucky ones. Others were on a tender that was bobbing up and down in the ocean probably 20 feet from the ship but they couldn't get closer because of the waves. It was dark, very high waves etc.

We did the same itinerary on the Spirit May 2011, Belize was the only tender, and we were on "speed boats" from the Ship to Belize, 8 minutes max. Where we were let off the boats there was a plaza area with many shops , bars and restauants. You walked outside this area to get onto the "streets" of Belize. I do think there were signs for cruise tours to pick up with them there. Don't know where other Ships have gone into but beleive me our tender boat ride was not a Ship lifeboat, but boat shuttle from Belize and they were fast, like hold onto your seat!

Just came off the Spirit on the same itinerary. As far as Belize tendering, they were using fairly large tenders, and running them very frequently.

If you are on an NCL excursion in Belize, you get priority to the tenders when the ship is first cleared for disembarkation. If you are in a Penthouse suite or higher, you will get some "VIP Tender" tickets that allow you the same priority on the first tenders off the ship. After that, it's a free for all, but they run so many tenders that it's not a problem.

Some of the NCL excursions in Belize (such as the snorkel and beach break) do not even go into Belize City. These excursions depart in their own tenders from the other side of the ship, and go straight out to the beach or reef from the ship. They also return straight to the ship, both of which are very nice as you avoid the longer trip to Belize City, and the transfer to another tender.
