We are due to start our cruisetour with Princess on 19th August 2011 (we fly to Seattle) - we are doing a land cruise first. we would like to do a tour in Kenai but the one we like is sold out with Princess - does anyone have suggestions of any independant companies we could book with?

There are two major companies. Choose a tour that is a minimum of 5 hrs and goes to at least one glacier. Look at the cruise details and map. You don't want to be stuck on the 3 hr tour of the Bay.

I am assuming you are staying at the Kenai Lodge? Princess does not run the tours, they contract with Kenai Fjords tours. You will have to make your own arrangements with Princess for the shuttle bus, which is an hour each way. Contact Kenai Fjords tours direct, along with Major Marine, and book with who is available on their park tours, of at least 6 hours on the water. Verify the Lodge shuttle buses first, by calling them first.

We did the national park tour with Kenai Fjords Tours a week ago, and it was a great experience. Very knowledgeable naturalist and captain, tons of wildlife, chance to get really close to a glacier, nice boat (bonus: non-smoking throughout). Fastest 6 hours I have ever spent in my life!
