is anyone scared about the tropical storm emily coming to the east coast on saturday cause i'm leaving from port canaveral on the dream and worried about the weather.

Please be advised, due the expected track of current tropical wave / low pressure which may become a tropical depression within the next 48 hours. For the safety of our guest and crew, we have decided to revise Carnival Dream’s current itinerary which sailed from Port Canaveral Saturday, July 30, 2011

Wh8/1/11 Mon DREAM "FUN DAY" AT SEA At Sea At Sea

8/2/11 Tue DREAM GRAND TURK 7:00 AM 5:00 PM

8/3/11 Wed DREAM "FUN DAY" AT SEA At Sea At Sea

8/4/11 Thu DREAM FREEPORT, BAHAMAS 7:00 AM 5:00 PM

8/5/11 Fri DREAM "FUN DAY" AT SEA At Sea At Sea

8/6/11 Sat DREAM PORT CANAVERAL (ORLANDO), FL 8:00 AM 4:00 PM

This was an Eastern cruise. Tough call but absolutley the right one.

They will always cruise around a storm so this might change depending on what the storm does.

What a difference 12 hours has made in the forecasts for this storm. It now looks as if it will skirt Florida and Georgia and make landfall around Wilmington, NC. It also looks as if the projected strength is not down a bit to a strong tropical storm.

Now I want to say one time and one time only, tropical cyclones are nothing to mess with. Everyone I have ever talked with who has ridden out a category 2 hurricane says, "I will never do that again." Almost everyone who has done this with a category 1 storm says the same thing. If you are in harms way, be prepared to evacuate. If you stay and bad things happen to you, you and only you are to blame.

Regardless of strength and potential course, Emily could be a problem for cruises departing Florida on this weekend. Keep an eye on the forecast and on the Cruise Critic boards for the latest information.

I'm most scared about missing Key West, not about the storm!! I picked my itinerary because we have never been there and both ports are nontendering. My DD is in a WC and unable to transfer or walk so if we are diverted to a tender port, she can't get off the boat! We are gonna be on a cruise anyway so its all good....:D

Don't worry about that, by Sun the storm will be closer to Bermuda than Key West.

I love how the Hurricane Industrial Complex makes every little storm that starts in the Atlantic into a life threatening cat 5 hurricane as soon as it starts drizzling.

And their voices go up a few notches with excitement over something new to report>

If Dream leaves, it may be a little late, but I think it will go. By sailing time, the storm will have already gone past south Florida, possibly sunny.

WOW that really sucks but you have to be safe. As bad as my luck is I could expect this to happen to me!

That's lame! Why can't they do a full 3 or 4 port western itinerary?

I was watching the weather channel today and it said Emily has become more disorganised so by the time it reaches Florida it could be a depression or less but thats just a possibility

I know I'll be fine once we get to the ship on Sun. My worry is my flight from Texas to Ft. Lauderdale that is scheduled to land around 3pm Saturday.....I guess I'm now at the mercy of Emily's path:eek:

I am really scared right now about this storm, because we are flying into Orlando on Saturday and driving down to Lauderdale on Sunday, and now I am worried that it will be dangerous to drive down, or that our cruise will be cancelled, or we might have an itinerary change. I have never dealt with this before, so does anyone have any advice?

By Sunday the storm will likely be long gone, heading for the Carolinas.

Everyone is talking about how the ship can sail around it. Yeah cool an all but what if a storm is going to hit the port on the day of departure? You just lose a couple days?

In the past when this has happenned, I believe they moved the ship to a different port, or if the ship was at sea and a storm threatened the home port, they returned to a different one. Then they would bus passengers to and from the home port. Or they have also extended cruises, keeping the ship at sea an extra day, so the incoming passengers would lose a day in that case.

I'm slightly worried about it - I leave from Baltimore this Sunday on the Pride, going to Port Canaveral and the Bahamas.

At least cruises never get cancelled...they just miss or change ports sometimes. So I know I'll still have an awesome time. Hopefully the storm isn't as bad as it is projected to be. Think positively!

I live on the East Coast of Florida. We are expecting heavy rain with heavy seas over the weekend and next several days. The storm will cover the East Coast and extend well into the Bahamas. Does not look like it will become a hurricane, but that could change overnight. Like always, the locals will just wait and see or just hunker down and wait it out.

Dont worry I live in Boca Raton and Im on the same cruise. Its not going to be that bad. It should be thru by sat. Ship comes in sunday morning. Im not even putting anything on my windows or taking plants in. Been living here for about 45 years. Just drive careful and have fun on the ship. You will find me in the casino with my hubby. <G>

I am praying really hard with you...praying that that sucker takes a Westerly turn (as some spaghetti models predict) and come right on up the Gulf to Texas! We need the rain...something fierce!

Seriously however, as others have said, you will be fine. If it were me and I was worried about traveling the day its predicted then I would come a day or so ahead of time if at all possible.
