South America

We are looking at a 19 day South American cruise later next year. We already have one with the same itinerary on Celebrity later in 2012. My question is for those of you that have sailed on Oceania Insignia. This is a much smaller ship and I am concerned about motion. Will we be better off on the bigger ship going around the horn. Right now Oceania seems like a better deal. Any thoughts...

You cannot predict what the waters will be like around the Cape. They can be calm enough to sail in a rowboat or rough enough so that you will feel it on the QM2. I would let the other factors in the equation guide me.

around the horn from Valpariso to Buenos Aires this last January...and only encountered some rough seas at the very tip of the horn...but as Wripro said it is so the luck of the draw. It was a fabulous experience and really rates as one of our best cruises so I think either will be a wonderful choice! Enjoy...we want to do it again!! LuAnn

I have sailed around the Horn twice. The first time was so rough that lots of people got sick. The second time, the waters were so calm that our captain announced that we were going to circumnavigate the Horn since the calmness of the waters allowed him to do so.

No rhyme or reason since the time of year was approximately the same. I would let other considerations guide your decision.

Whatever you decide, that is a fabulous trip.
