Child Control

On some of the ships we have sailed in some of the hot tubs have had a sign on it that say adults only and the kids still go in them. I have said something to the kids only to be ignored...

Our daugther is 10, we have a hot tub at home she goes in so I do let her go on the one on the ship, as long as it isn't adults only...my daughter is certainly no angel but she knows that a hot tub is to sit down and relax for a few minutes and then get out...

I can tell you what is almost as bad, if not worse sometimes than the kids jumping around...the adults that sit in there for hours upon hours drinking one drink after another never giving anyone else a chance to enjoy them...some ships don't have a lot of hot tubs and when you get a group of 8-10 drunk adults in there I think I would rather take my chances with the kids;)

WOW you would think this was a smoking thread! LOL...

Ok SOME hot tubs onboard are "family" hot tubs, usually in the main pool area but others have signs that state "18 years or older"... and the serenity area is 21 and over. So main pool area let the kids jump in, eat hot dogs (seen it), splash their parents (and whoever is around), etc. BUT please keep them out of the other hot tubs. And yes on most Carnival ships the hot tubs are salt water also.

I totally agree! My parents would never allow us to act up in public and I certainly monitor my kids - 10 & 6. We are taking them on their first cruise next May and I guarantee no one will be wondering why my kids are hanging out in the hot tub or jumping into the pool. Here's a good one - cruise last October I notice a 2 year old boy trying to walk across that wooden "bench" that goes across the pool and his mother slept in a lounge chair with an empty glass between her legs. He almost fell a few times and other people that were alot closer than me just watched. I went and told security and he told me to "go wake her up." I was amazed that this was OK with security let alone all of the other passengers!

I would have told security it was their job to wake her up. No one else should be watching her kid while she sleeps!

....the adults that sit in there for hours upon hours drinking one drink after another never giving anyone else a chance to enjoy them...

I'm not sure I would want to get in... if no one is getting "up" you gotta wonder where the excess liquids are going:eek:

I did not start this thread as an anti-children post. I absolutely adore my children. Kids are kids and they are going to act a certain way...I get it and I deal with it on a daily basis....I'm not saying your kids should not have fun on their vacation and I'm not singling out anyone specific person's children....

My issue is with the parents who believe their kids can do no wrong and allow them to act like children do without trying to teach them respect for others and enforce positive behavior...

with that said, as posted above, I'm insanely excited about our cruise and am excited for DW's first experience....I'll enjoy it no matter what...I just have a problem with parents not actually parenting whether it's on a cruise ship or in society in general....children seem to lack respect, consideration, manners and discipline these days....and this is coming from someone in their 30's.

Part of me would love the days when children must be seen and not heard but we aren't living in that time.

If you raise your kid to be a respectful child with good manners, they will be rewarded. Teachers love them, other adults love them and their lives are a lot easier. The feral children who only get negative attention. I kind of feel sorry for them when I'm not dreaming of throttling them.

May I suggest asking this question to the parents of the children in the hot tubs on the cruise you are going on. Then come back and let us know what they say:D. Especially the parents of the ones that do a lot of splashing and jumping.

I really can't answer your question because in the 8 cruises we have been on (all with our kids), DS has never gone in the hot tubs...he just doesn't like them and DD and I have gone in maybe 3-4 times. She was sitting with me the whole time in the tubs that allow children. The temperature in these tubs are not hot enough to harm them. The last time we went in a hot tub on the Carnival Freedom something popped out of the water and put a small cut on her ear. I have no idea what it was (and I was sitting right next to her when it happened) but she has refused to go in cruise ship hot tubs ever since.

I have to agree that there are a lot of children today that are very disrespectul-but that is the parent's fault not the child. I don't have an issue with a kid being in the hot tub as long as there aren't a whole group of them being rude and obnoxious. I would never want to ban them from certain things! I have an issue if kids are being out of control and the parents just smile and act like it's cute or okay!

I don't normally go in the hot tubs unless it is first thing in morning for this EXACT reason!

My son is nearly 13 and he will be allowed to use the hot tubs. Why would I not allow him? It is his vacation too. Since he isn't old enough to drink alcohol, he'll be better behaved than some adults.

Our cruise has the adult only area so people should feel free to go there if they don't want kids around.

I would not have an issue being in a hot tub with a child your son's age. Or any age for that matter. I would have an issue if he starts acting like the hot tub is a pool and starts getting roudy and jumping in.

Pools are definitely salt water, but on both of our Carnival cruises, none of the hot tubs were salt water. I've been in all the hot tubs on all of the cruises we've been on. Never had a salt water hot tub, or ever heard of one, unless it was some sort of special mineral/salt water.

I think the thalasotherapy (sp?) pool in the spa on the Splendor is a sort of mineral or salt water, but not the filtered ocean water they use for all the swimming pools.

LOL *I'd have an issue if my son was jumping in a hot tub. Besides for it being rude it is really dangerous.

I haven't cruised nearly as many times as most members of CC. I cruised once as a child, and my only Carnival Experience in '05. Reading some threads it seems like the lido pools are completely out of control with children in the hot tubs and jumping off the ledges on to each other.

When I sailed as a child, my parents would absolutely not let me go into the hot tubes. They believed that just because we were on vacation, didn't mean we could be rude to others on vacation. They also knew if they allowed my sister and I into the hot tubs, we'd probably horseplay and become nuisances to others. On my '05 cruise, the hot tubs were packed with kids but not out of control.

I'm a parent of 3, my wife and I are going by ourselves as it's DW's first ever cruise in Jan. We're also looking to book thru Carnival for the entire family for next summer. I, like my parents will not allow our children into the hot tub. I think there are plenty of other activities on board for them and I know they would not act accordingly.

My question is to the parents who allow their kids into the hot tub and allow their kids to horseplay around the hot tubs. Why? I know you're on vacation, but shouldn't there be some level of consideration for the adult guests who would like to relax? CC obviously does not police this much, but shouldn't this fall on the parents? Sorry for the rant, just as a parent I will not allow my children to be inconsiderate of others whether we're on vacation or not....just not sure why other parents think it's okay...

Actually you will find out that the kids are not the problem. Most problems encountered will be with the 28-40 crowd, drunk, loud talking at dinner, loud in hallways coming back drunk at 2 am . Don't worry about the kids, kids will be kids.;)

I think a large part of these rowdy kids' parents 'fly the coup', 'cut and run', 'make a break for it'...when their little darlings are on the Lido deck...just like at my neighborhood pool where they let the pool babysit -from open to close- whilst they do whatever they need or want to do...so while Johnny is dive bombing a 60 year old stranger in the Carnival hot tubs, his parents are in the casino or bellied up to a bar. As long as mom, dad and Johnny are having a fantastic vacay...that's all that matters, right?

HAHAHAHA! EXACTLY! I just think if you want a vacation from parenting, that's fine...cruise without the kids for once. If you're going to cruise with your kids, please just make sure they can behave themselves. There's a fine line between kids having fun and kids being out of control, I just ask that parents keep their kids on the appropriate side of that line.

We have mostly cruised in Jan/Feb each year so do not encounter too many children.

I know on one we saw children misbehaving in the hot tub/pool area. My DH quickly said something and they ran away scared. One good thing about having a tall big guy say something to little kids they listen and then run to mommy/daddy who look over and decide not to react.

The difference with the heat level with a 40 year old and a child is their ability to absorb more heat for a prolonged period of time. The core temperature of a child will elevate quicker than a larger adult. Also as we age we have hopefully built up some immunities to foreign garbage. I was trying to give a small education. I try not to cruise during peak kid season and spend more time in the Serenity area. If I was phobic about kids, drunks, foreigners, flies and diapers in pools then I would stay home with the curtains drawn. I cruise for destinations and time with my wife. Everyone and everything else could be invisible.

Kids don't work....they don't need a vacation. I don't know many 12-13 year old boys that would sit still in a hot tub.

Kids DO work. Their work is their schooling. My children also have chores that the must do each week. They deserve vacations just as much as we do.

i enter the hot tube with my child. if you have a problem, talk to me.

and when is someone going to realize if they would heat the pools a bit, the kids would be in the pool. my whole summer cruise, the pool was never warmer than 62°. so we went in the hot tube.

Hot tubs are salt water, filtered sea water, same as the pools. Used to be fresh water but that was several years ago.

Can't stand rowdy rug rats. There was a group of 6 of them running down the hall at night about 10pm. This was the 1A hallway where I knew none of them were staying. I let them have it and they didn't come back. Nothing but noise and running.

It's a true reflection on the parents. I was taping a show and instead it taped Desperate HW of NJ. Thst one lady has got some badly behaved kids and does nothing about it. Gross.

I agree. I try to do a little winter cruise sans kiddos and an August cruise with our kiddos each year...that's my plan, but DH grumbles about it as he's not as fond of cruising as I am. But, when we bring the kids and they want to hit the Lido deck(for swimming, slide and hot tubs), we are sitting right there with drinks in hand. When it comes to water activities, I am a big proponent of supervising as things can easliy go awry. My kids are 12(twins) and 14 and we have never given them complete unsupervised free-run of a cruise ship...the 14 year old and his buddy will get more freedoms on our cruise in a few days (yay, just a few days away!). And as long as DH will agree to keeping the annual short winter cruise without the kids, I will be fine with replacing the August family cruise with other types of vacations (DH is dying to do a week at Hilton Head...uggg, that means grocery shopping and cooking and cleaning and lugging beach gear to and fro...uggg).

I have to say that MY kids DO NOT work hard enough to deserve a vacation(not with American public schooling)...I just like a week every year with my family together having fun, my DH and I deserve that. And at my kids' ages...their idea of a vacation is sitting at home with electronics and junk food...with no homework or bedtime...with no parents bugging them...with a friend over. They'd take that over a week on a cruise with their folks.
