Best way to get from Quebec City to Montreal?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am going to arrive in Quebec City and would love to spend a day in Montreal. What is the easiest way to get to Montreal? Would it be better to stay in Quebec City and go to Montreal for a day or stay in Montreal?

Thanks!

Ann

Easiest way is by train. Downtown to downtown. It's too far to go and return in 1 day if you hope to do anything. Each city warrants a few days.

I agree with the train suggestion. When you get out in Montreal, you are right downtown. You can grab a hotel room at the Queen Elizabeth hotel, which is right above the train station, and get out to see the sights. If you want to see Montreal, I suggest having lunch or brunch in Quebec City, which gives you a chance to see and experience Quebec City a little bit, and then taking your train in the afternoon. The train will be about 2-2 1/2 hours. You can be relaxing in your hotel room by late afternoon, and head out for dinner and a night on the town!

You can book train tickets on the viarail web site : http://www.viarail.ca/en/main

Check out the deals section for cheaper tickets.

Staying in Montreal or Quebec is both great choice. It's depend of what you look. Quebec is more lay back and wandering in the street, taking a great meal. Montreal as more museums and big attractions to visit.

Even if I like to travel by train I would suggest you to take the bus. The train station and the bus station is in the same builing in downtown Quebec City. They have bus very often during the day (almost each hour) and it's affordable. This way, you can spend a day in Montreal and return to Quebec late at night.
