Hi just seen a link to your post.

Interesting!! We are cruising for the first time on Crown Princess this Christmas. Do you or anyone else know, if they do a similar package on the Princess ships?

Or how would I find out?

Cheers.

Gossy.

Last time I was on Princess they were not. I believe Celebrity is the only one offering this, also Royal Caribbean are trying it out on a few selected ships.

Let me start by saying we are not big drinkers per say, however on a cruise, we do like to enjoy ourselves, after all it is a carribbean vacation! We were on the Connie last January and purchased the Premium Drink package prior to boarding. Initially we were concerned that with so many port days we might not get our money's worth.

Not only did we get our money's worth and more, there were other perks that we didn't anticipate. Aside from no slips to sign etc, often around the pool when a frozen drink started melting often the staff would ask if they could just make a new one. We tried many different types of drinks esp Martinis that we might not have bought otherwise. If we tried a new drink and didn't like it it was replaced with another drink of our choice without question.

In order to show you why we felt this was a great deal I will describe a typical day. Disclaimer... based on this, some may think that we are heavy drinkers...if that is the case , while we appreciate your perspective and opinion please do not comment on our consumption ( this is our first post and we have seen some petty unnecessary replies). The purpose of this information is not to expose our consumption for review and/or public scrutiny, but to demonstrate to those who like to let their hair down a little and are wondering from a ecocnmic standpoint is it worth purchasing a package.

0830-Latte with one and half shots of Bailys..........$10.00

1100-large water...............................................$ 3.50

1230- Frozen drink..............................................$6.50

1430- Beer........................................................$5.00

1600- Frozen drink..............................................$6.50

1800- Glass of wine while dressing for dinner............$10.00

1930- Martini and dancing prior to dinner.................$12.00

2030- Dinner ( 4 different types of wine by the glass as suggested with each course by sommommlier-not all entirely consumed)..$ 40.00

2215- Specialty Coffee..........................................$ 8.00

2300- Dancing/Bar/Show/Casino Cocktail.............................$10.00

2400- Nightcap.(wearever..maybe brought back to balcony) $10.00

Total...$121.50 ( Drink prices are approx by memory-please don't bust me for not remembering exact price..probably cause I drank too much..Ha ha)

Cost per day...$55.00

Remenber this is for one person double the savings when we each bought one!

Only difference on port days was that we had two beers when back on ship as compared to 3 poolside drinks. Many nights we actually stayed out dancing etc later and maybe had another one...or if really hot day at the pool and having fun with poolside neighbors maybe snuck in an extra beer!

If you think this might come even close to a typical carribbean vacation day for you, then you can see what a true value it is. The other convieniences were no slips to sign, bar servers, waiters and sommoliers knowing your preferences and offering drink suggestions and special cocktails that we had never tried before. We told our assit waiter the first night about the specialty coffee and we had it served with our dessert every night...no hassles. It really added to the vacation atmosphere that we enjoy!

Hope this helps!

Thank you for this good post, we have been in two minds and could not find any good explanation anywhere, I have just made up my mind I will get the premium drinks package for our upcoming cruise. PS we are also not big drinkers but when on a cruise we do tend to overindulge just a little bit :-)

I am also going to share your post on the message board for our upcoming cruise as so many have asked this question and did really not get a good answer.

"Any input from those of you that book an Aqua class room and pay for the premium package would be appreciate."

If you are not big drinkers of alcohol, Celebrity now offers a Premium Water package. I drink a lot of water too, and this was perfect, but it is just water. I found it to be a better package for me, adding a glass of wine with dinner.

We are also cruising Aqua for the first time, I believe they put a large bottle of water and a pitcher of cold herbal tea in your room daily. I was also told the water is not premium water. Hope this helps, but I would also be interested in any feedback.

In AQ, we received 2 to 3 bottles of water daily in the mini fridge. We could also ask the room steward for more (if we wanted to take it onshore for instance). We always had more than enough as we prefer beverages with alcohol or caffeine ;)

It was not a name brand water but was just fine. We are not tea drinkers so I asked the steward not to bring the tea.

If you get the premium drink package, are you charged for the day you disembark?

No, you are charged for 7 days on a 7 day cruise. You do get to take advantage on the day your disembark and the day you embark, so the total time is technically slightly less than a full 7 days.

What is the price for the premium drink package? Princess which I cruise regularly doesn't have this. I'm thinking of a cruise on Celebrity. It does seem like Celebrity drink prices are a bit higher than Princess. Anyone cruise both lines that might confirm this? On Princess I can get most any kind of martini or mixed drink for $7.75 which includes tip.

Also, if you buy the premium drink package does that mean unlimited drinks that fall within the category for the whole cruise?

Thanks for your input.

In reply to thesecond part of your question. Yes. non stop if you wish at no extra cost if you have the stamina. Great value and peace of mind ( no big bar bill at end of cruise )

The packages are good for some, not so good for others. Our bill at the end of our cruise on the Eclipse last Dec was 650 total. That was with 2 excursions, tips and beveraages. So obviously not worth it to us to get the drink packages. I am not a big coffee drinker.

Would not be a good deal for us either.

We can bring on 2 bottles of wine ,plus we can buy a premium litre for 1 hundred bucks (20 drinks).

We are doing an 11 day cruise so I would be shocked if we came any where close to the 1200 bucks that the package would cost us

Great! We are not heavy drinker either but on vacaiton. We sit and relax! Remember it 5 o'clock somewhere.

I think it also depends on just how much you expect to drink at 5 o'clock. We are winos and rarely have a mixed drink and never a martini. We always buy a wine package of several bottles and have that with evening meals. During the day, we may have two coffees each and a couple of waters and iced tea. So for us, even a non-alcohol package would not pay for itself. I don't mind signing the chits.

Sorry, but I'll ask again. Can you buy package more than 4 months out?

thanks,

marilyn

We were able to buy our drink package on the =X= website almost 6 months to the day before our sail date. It would seem logical that you should have a similar experience.

Happy sailings!:)
