Heald: New Loyalty Program

simply....NO

Hmm. Seems to me that when I began my "loyalty" to Carnival, I had in mind that after my 10th cruise I'd be platinum. Why does me cruising 10 times to obtain platinum strike such a chord in you? Thunder, if you are Plat. read on: Seems to me that you think it is unfair for someone else to get what you have by meeting the same criteria as you did. I call that hypocritical. Sure there may be more "equitable" ways for cruisers to achieve plat. status, but, why not start with new cruisers?

This sounds like a great idea to me. I know businesses do things such as this. My company has done it in varying degrees with vacation time, Health Care benefits and pension plan

I'm thinking that no one needs to be grandfathered in since if you are at a level you have already met the criteria.

For example:

Old plan New plan

After first cruise Gold 1st tier

Platinum 2nd tier

10 cruises - could be 3 days = 30 days 25 - 74 days

(if they were 7 days you'd almost be

out of the 2nd tier)

Milestone 3rd tier

25 cruises - could be 3 days = 75 days 75 - 224 days

(if they were 7 days you'd have 175 half way

to the 3rd tier)

Nothing now 4th tier

225+ days

Hopefully this will be a big improvement. Of course anything is

an improvement over the nothing we have now.

We are flying in to Hawaii a couple days early and staying in Hawaii a couple of days after flying back from Australia....We are actually staying in Sydney 7 days after getting off the Spirit and then doing a 13 day on the Dawn Princess around New Zealand, we want to see New Zealand while we are down there.....We'll be gone from home 6 weeks....Dennis

Many of us can only dream of that trip "of a lifetime". With land based time, maybe we can request you work on a review for all of us wanna be sailing on that? Thanks in advance--don't forget the photos, details and food porn :)

Why is the person who takes 10 3 day cruises treated better than me who takes 4 8 day cruises:confused:

Also, why does someone who takes these cheap 3 day cruises and spends nothing on board entitled to things I don't get for another 6 years (assuming one 8 day cruise per year??)

Make it days onboard PLUS onboard spending and come up with something equitable for all customers.

I know, too complex for Carnival to figure out

The above didn't look like that when I wrote it. I'll try it again.

I get what you are saying, and it makes sense. It is really hard to format in a post and get things lined up right. Just hope they are listening, and if not, give enough time for cruisers to react if they are on the bubble.

Good for you...Live life without regrets or I should'ves Enjoy..be diligent it is easier to write as you travel,so many details (that we all love to read) are hard to recall. Next cruise I am bringing a 11"laptop/ that is a mere size of a netbook to type notes, review my photos (but not upload as not spending slow internet speed time for that) and can watch movies if desire. But that is mostly for hotel and airport use.

Mostly though the ship excursions just tire me out all by themselves.

Enjoy ...maybe in five years we may do your trip...

We're still young'uns, about to get married. I was talking to hubby-to-be about retirement finances, and how I'd want to eventually have enough in the bank to not have to worry about money even if one of us needed around-the-clock care at some point. He made sure to add in that we needed enough to take at least 2 cruises per year.

Congratualtions and what a great man...took me 10 years to get mine to that mentality. Really, best wishes and after nearly 27 years I can recommend (once you are settled after first year) to save 10% from check and match as much as employer allows for the 401K plan. It really pays off and why we can consider retiring in next five years while still in our fifties.

Always said if you never had the cash in check you never miss it. Same with raises..(if economy ever allows that again) always saved those.

OK...off my mom soapbox.

Hi Mom! *waves* (j/k)

We're on the Dave Ramsey plan - save up for the wedding, then pay off debt as fast as we can, then start saving. Becoming obscenely wealthy will take a while.

We're on the Dave Ramsey plan - save up for the wedding,...

Our wedding was $25 - justice of the peace. That has worked out to less than $1/year!! :D

I can't fathom what some people will pay for a single day! But, it's their $$ (or their parents.. or someone's)!! ;)

Good investment, huh? ;)

We were going to go to the JP (or get married on the ship), but Mom apparently wanted us to have an actual wedding enough that she's paying for it.

Ours is relatively cheap, compared to the average, and I'm still twitching at some of the costs.

I hate it that they are thinking about changing the loyalty program now. I have six cruises in with carnival and have thought about trying other cruise lines, but have been excited to try and make platinum. If they do change their program, I am more than sure that I will start using others as at that point it will not matter. I am sure I am not alone in my thinking.

That is EXACTLY my thinking. Yes, we too will be at 6 Carnival Cruises by the end of 2011. We have tried other lines and are eager to try more, but feel compelled to finish off 10 with Carnival to lock in Platinum. We will certainly not feel rushed to do that if the changes push us farther away from Platinum. We will be at 36 days by the end of 2011 which would put us 39 days (more than half) from the proposed Platinum tier of 75 days.

We do not live close to a port, so squeezing in a couple of 3 or 4 day cruises is not feasible. Believe me, if we lived in Florida - we'd be WAY past 10 cruises by now! We'd jump on those quick, last minute deals! Gosh, you Florida folks have it made! Unfortunately we need to deal with flights!

I don't see anywhere it is mentioned that 75 days is equal to the current Platinum. According to the survey, 75 days is the third tier which sounds equal to the current Milestone.

There are four tiers in the new program. 1 to 24 days is the first tier (current gold); 25 to 74 days is second tier - current Platinum; 75 to 224 days is third tier (current Milestone) and 225+ days is the fourth tier which is a step above the current Milestone.

Where are people seeing differently?
