Anybody tried Window Suites on Grand Princess

We were just assigned F 301 the smallest Window Suite for our Nov. 3, 2012 Transatlantic cruise on the Grand.

I would be interested to know if the hallway to this room is private since the next room is a public bathroom. If anyone has stayed in this room, I am interested to know whether there were any negatives. We are looking forward to our first suite. We always book a Mini Suite so it will be a treat to have Suite perks even though there will be no balcony.

Candide, congrats on your upgrade.

I haven't stayed in the WS yet (August 2012 will be our turn), however, I have done quiet a bit of research on them. As I understand it, our suite corridor is separate from everything else. The public bathroom is for use by the two venues on down the hall toward the front of the ship. Someone explained that you enter our corridor in the middle of the set of rooms, and go towards the left (to get to 301, 303, 305) and to the right (to get to 307, 309, 311, 313). It has been posted that no one is in our corridor except for those of us with rooms there. I am hoping this is the case and we aren't bothered by noise nor smoke from the cigar bar.

Aren't the perks great?

I am glad to hear that there is an entrance to the corridor rather than a door across from 301. Yes, we are looking forward to the perks, especially the Mimosas in Sabatinis. I will be watching for your review when you sail in August.

Do a search for the "Grand" window suites. Someone posted very smokey as across from the casino even with the doors to hall closed. Other ships window suites are a floor down away from the casino and cigar bar. I would book a window suite on any ship but the Grand. The poster was one of the first in a window suite on the Grand.

We had a paid upgrade to a WS on the Grand in December. Cabin 315 as I recall. Noise was a non-issue but smoke from the casino was a problem. After talking with the pursers desk they did close the hallway door most of the time, but smoke was still very noticiable. Until Princess addresses the vent and supply design, or, eliminate smoking in ALL public areas, the Window Suites and hallway will have to deal with the smoke smell. ( Another post from room 303 as I recall had similar problems with the smoke smell. Other end of the hall.)

The perks are nice and the extra room is a big plus. If you enjoy time spent on a balcony, then the WS may not be for you, We found we spent alot of time on the promanade deck or on the upper decks. Next time we will book a balcony and would not accept a upgrade to the WS even though the room size and decor si very nice.

On the GPNow in a window suite. We can't smell smoke from the casino in our room or in the hallway. The doors have been kept closed so far. We do hear joggers overhead on the promenade deck...but that stops after a call to the front desk. (posted to refrain from jogging before 8am)

So some find them smokey and some don't...I'm trying to decide.

We're considering a 15day in a Grand Princess Window Suite. Smoke would be bad. It seems like some of the smokey reviews were pre-smoking policy change or immediately after.

Any recent reviews?

My parents and I were in F301 on the Golden Princess in August during our Alaskan cruise and really enjoyed the suite. This was my first ever cruise, the 4th Alaskan for my parents. They've had balcony rooms on Alaskan cruises and felt this type of room was better than a balcony as they felt you could see a lot more with the two big picture windows. As far as noise, as previous posters have said WS is in a private hallway so you don't hear folks passing to the Princess Theatre or other areas on the deck. I don't recall ever hearing other folks staying in the other WS cabins either. We did experience one bad night late in the cruise with smoke. We discovered the smoking bar door was open, the private hallway door had been left open and there was a vent on our door that was open allowing the smoke to come in. Other than that we never could smell the smoke until going out into the main hall. I feel safe in saying that my family and I would love to stay in a WS again, especially for an Alaskan cruise. Enjoy!
