Anybody tried Window Suites on Grand Princess

Has anybody tried these suites on the Grand? (I have looked at the pictures that are in another thread from the Caribbean Princess but he locations are slightly different)

It suddenly occurred to me that Princess might consider them an upgrade from my AB minisuite that costs more than the window suite.

My concerns include:

  • potential high traffice area (on the way to the Princess Theater)
  • potential high noise location as it shares a hallway with the casino
  • potentially a smoky area as smoking is still allowed in a portion of the casino
  • current WS price is less than an AB
  • total square footage is about the same when you include the AB balcony

.

Currently, on our July 2012 Baltic cruise, AB minis are waitlisted and the WS's are wide open. I can see a computer opening AB's by "upgrading" people to WS's.

Hate to mark my booking as no upgrade but not sure I want a WS. I have been in a VS on the Coral and the perks were nice but

I have not stayed in a WS myself, but have visited friends in one. The rooms open out to a private hallway with closable doors on either end. "Thru-traffic" passes by outside this hallway.

I have heard of Oceanview rooms being upgraded to WS, but I can't recall hearing of any type of balcony room upgraded to this catagory.

Others may have had a different experience than my friends, but they loved it.

We LOVED the window suite! I would book one again in a minute. The room was very spacious, the views out the big windows were great, the bathroom was huge, beautiful, and very unlike a ship (separate tub with jets, separate shower, double sink etc), and the suite perks from free internet to Sabatini's for breakfast were fantastic. Go for it!!!

I have never heard of anyone being upgraded from having a minisuite with a balcony to a window suite. I have heard of those having outside cabins being upgraded.

My guess is if Princess considers you for this upgrade - they will consult you first.

I was upgraded (at the pier!) from an obstructed OV to a WS on the Golden (which is pretty similar to the Grand) and thought that was an extraordinarily large jump in categories until I realised that most people with balcony cabins, especially minisuites, would have considered losing their balcony to be a downgrade - maybe Princess realise that too?

As a solo cruiser who can't afford a balcony I absolutely loved it - the suites themselves are wonderful - but I'm sure many pax would prefer a mini with a balcony.

We thought about it, but the WS was quite a bit cheaper, and comes with lots more amenities!

With only one sea day on our itinerary, we'd barely have time for a balcony anyway.

Our feelings exactly. (We'll be getting off the ship on the day you will be getting on.)

Looking forward to our first WS. We had a mini suite and if going to the caribean, would probably have retained it, but heading for Hawaii on the Golden with many sea days, accepted for a very small fee an upgrade to a WS. The amenities alone are fantastic.

We had a window suite on the Caribbean princess this summer and loved it. We did not miss the balcony at all. Great location on ship, lots of great perks including laundry, unlimited Internet and breakfast at Sabatinis. A great way to start the day! the price just dropped for the window suites on the Grand for January and we snapped one up.

I am sorry but I cant find any pics of the WS cabins! I have seen pics of parts of the cabin but not of the window or hallway. I would love to see what the view out the window is and how big the window is. If someone could post or direct me to pics of the WS's it would be greatly appreciated:D

Thanks

I am so glad to hear SO MANY positive comments about the WS. We have one booked next August to Alaska - I want to look out at the scenery, but I am so cold natured that I would never use a balcony. I had some of the same concerns others have about traffic in hallway/smell of smoke in room due to the casino and cigar bar.

CRUISE1814 - I googled Princess Window Suite and several webshot photos were available to see. The cabins are in beige and look peaceful and relaxing. The room looks spacious and the bathroom - WOW. Then are the perks.... all for a cheaper price than a balcony for our Alaska cruise. I think we will love it and I am sure you will also.

Thanks again everyone that has sailed in a WS for the positive comments!

Check this thread out. I think it shows Caribbean Princess, but you will get the idea. On a cruise that I wasn't going to use a balcony very often - I would snap it up in a minute!!!

We had a WS on the Carribbean Princess, but I think it is similiar. The suite was in it's own hallway, very quiet (even when the theatre shows were getting out), and was never smokey. I can't think of any negatives.

Totally agree. Was in a WS on the Caribbean two weeks ago and found no negatives, especially considering we were on a cold weather, port intensive cruise. The private hallway for just these staterooms made this the least noisy room we have had in nearly 30 cruises. We are Elite so the Suite perks are not that different, except for the Sabatinis breakfast, which is a nice relaxing way to start the day.

We received an offer today to move from an obstructed OV to the window suites, we had three cabins and took the offer on all three of them. I don't think for the price I could even begin to complain about what we will get.

That's fantastic . . . Congratulations! I'm sure you're going to love all the perks, not to mention the extra space.

Was there an upcharge and if so, could you tell us what the fee was per cabin?

Hi, I'm doing a WS on the Grand in Feb sailing on the 11th. I have seen plenty of posting about the CP but not much on people who have actully been in a WS on the Grand. I thought I read somewhere that the Caribbean and Golden offer WS all the suite ammenities but not on the Grand. Can anyone who has been on the Grand in a WS actually tell me if they received all the suite benifits? Thanks

We saw those suites on our Golden cruise, they look very nice but we would miss the fresh air the balcony provides. The area was quite, smoke free and the people we met who were in them seemed very happy with them.

Just spoke to Princess it is a typo - all is good it is full suite benifits

Hi Buckeye! My partner and I are also sailing on the Feb. 11 sailing of the Grand in a Window Suite. I guess we will be neighbors. Glad to hear your confirmation that the WS class on the Grand includes full suite benefits. Less than 10 weeks to go! Can't wait!
