jmps Posted September 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2011 We are staying near the St. Pietro station in Rome. We would like to catch the train from there instead of Termini to the port. Are we going to have an issue with getting a seat on the Regional trains from there? We we would like to catch a train around 11:30 or so. Thanks for any info. cruise kitty Posted September 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Hi Jmps: I think that the regional trains can't actually sell out, because there are no assigned seats... they can get very crowded thought, depending on day & time, you may end up standing most of the way with your luggage next to you. euro cruiser Posted September 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2011 In the middle of the day it is highly unlikely that you will find a crowded train.
KirkNC Posted September 14, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Going at 11:30 should help a lot. When we returned to the port via the train from St Pietro, the train was very crowded and we had to stand about 1/3 of the way back until some of the local workers arrived at their stops...but that was 4:00. jmps Posted September 14, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Thanks everyone. I guess no reall worries. Since it is only 45 minutes or so from St. Pietro even standing wouldn't be that bad. I expect most passengers will be cruisers. CruiseKitty, perhaps we will be on the same train! caryh Posted September 16, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2011 We caught a train from St Pietro station to the cruise port in 2003. The hardest part by far was hauling three pieces of luggage and two small backpacks to the station. The walk was up and down hills on cobble stones, although it was only about 1/3 mile. We spent 5 days in Rome and did a trial walk the day before. Back then it was only 6 euro to Civitivecchia on the regional train. It was a very enjoyable ride. We had no problem getting seats.
